daniellearmouth reacted to SteveGrabowski0 in Is there any actual reason to get a Nintendo Switch?
I'll probably get crap for saying this, but the Zelda game I'm really into is A Link Between Worlds for 3DS. Man that game is a blast and the 3D looks impressive on it.

It's largely just transistioning between DDR3 and DDR4, since DDR4 is now the current standard.

I shall give that a shot at some point tomorrow, since it's getting a bit late now. Dunno why I didn't think of that...
I'll report back on what happens at some point tomorrow.

daniellearmouth got a reaction from Spudbilly in Skylake & Haswell-E PCIe lane misconception
In the UK, there's a problem with that.
Both CPUs are basically the same price, so you'd be looking at motherboards more than anything, and they can be pricey on the X99 platform.
Really, the motherboard is the only factor that is going to affect how much you dish out for your system. Though, I do still intend to acquire the X99 platform since it calls out to me. Do I need it? Heck no. Do I WANT it? Absolutely!

daniellearmouth got a reaction from Technous285 in Nintendo switch has a 6.2" 720p Capacitive Multi-touch display
TEN POINT TOUCH FOR THE FIRST TIME ON A NINTENDO DEVICE! WEW!
But legit, though. 720p works well for this as far as I'm concerned.
As the owner of an NVIDIA Shield K1, the difference in pixel density going from that to the Switch wouldn't really be that much. Yes, the Switch has a lower density, but bear in mind, it's gonna be using a Tegra chip, like the X1 or possibly X2, and there will have to be concessions made to fit it all into a tablet that can still game for a fair while.
Dev kit rumours may state that it can game for about three hours before it's out of juice. Still better than my Shield K1 can achieve at 1080p, what with it not having to deal with higher resolution displays that cost more to make and therefore buy and them sapping more powerful from the Tegra's GPU.
I don't really see what the problem is, to be blunt here.

daniellearmouth got a reaction from IAEInferno in Samsung 950 Pro 512GB or the Samsung EVO 1TB?
A traditional hard drive would be sufficient for games, as SSDs are generally shown to not really provide a significant enough benefit for gaming, short of improved load times.
And considering your use case doesn't exactly require a device with a read speed of in excess of two gigabytes per second, the 850 EVO 1TB will be more than enough.

daniellearmouth got a reaction from _JohnB330ci in GPU Sag Question ( GTX 1060 )
Very seldom does GPU sag cause any significant damage in the long term.
That said, if you want to put your mind at ease, you can prop it up with something to ensure GPU sag is as close to minimal as possible.

Yeah, no. Linux is no use to me at this time. If I weren't a gamer and if I weren't also making games, then I would jump on it. But alas, I am a gamer, I am making games, and I'm also using Adobe Creative Cloud which does not have Linux builds. And no, I'm not using similar software; similar doesn't cut it half the time.
