gojira reacted to bimmerman in Xeon w3550 vs X5670?
I'd do some googling on the processor first, I'm not familiar with those as much as the x56xx Is yours a quad or hex core?
For LGA 1366...
The X56xx chips are designed to be used in single or mulit-processor arrays, i.e. 1+ chips per motherboard. None had unlocked multipliers.
The W3xxx chips are designed to be the only processor on the motherboard. Some of them even have unlocked multipliers.
Functionally they should be the same. I'd say do some googling to figure out which of the W-series you have. Unlocked multiplier may only matter if your motherboard is compatible.
I literally just put an X5675 in my computer last night, as an upgrade from an i7-950, and will be tinkering with that going forward. Goal is to see if I can delay upgrading the main rig another year or so with a quick and dirty processor swap.

the x5650 tends to have a little more power then the w3550, I would go with the x5650

gojira reacted to crzyces in Xeon w3550 vs X5670?
The x5650 is a very good gaming chip oc'd. Very good. Downside. They only support 24 mb RAM. What the heck kind of limit is that for a Xeon that can be used in a dual socket? Anyway, an x5650 oc'd to 4.0 can game with mid tier top end chips, and are not going to be gaming bottlenecked (1 chip, not dual) by anything short of a 1080ti. It is a great budget chip. Tech city has a phenomenal set of videos overclocking them to 4.0 on the standard cooler and testing them against other chips. It's multi-core performance is also very impressive, and for the price, you can't beat it. I love that chip.

Get a normal 30$ watch. If it can tell the time and even the date, it's pretty smart Kappa.

gojira reacted to Lord_Karango17 in Can I display a second monitor through my motherboard rather than video card port?
Yes, just plug it into the motherboard, and see if it gets detected. If not, then go into the bios and turn on the igpu, or set both the dedicated gpu and igpu to work at the same time.

gojira reacted to CalebTheEternal in How long will Windows 10 be free on win 7 and 8?
You’ll have a free, full version of Windows 10 -- not a trial or a lite version -- if you complete your upgrade before July 29, 2016.1

gojira reacted to Memories4K in Fallout 4 Leaked Gameplay-General Discussion
This thread is only meant to talk about the recent leaked gameplay
Contribute any of your thoughts.
I had no idea the VA for the Vault-Tech representative that visits you is also the same guy who voiced Grandpa Max from the cartoon "Ben 10"
That was something i didn't catch the first time i saw the Fallout 4 trailer.
Also, graphics look better than i thought; i was one of those people who were disappointed (inb4 "gameplay>graphics" You can have your cake and eat it too people) but honestly getting a better look the only real problem is still animations (Then again what Bethesda game doesn't have a few undesirable animations)
The UI looks insanely simple and gross, the only thing i actually legitimately hate about what i've seen so far.
All in all the game looks good and can't wait to mod/play it.

That was my go-to, but I figured that I don't own a wristwatch I might as well skip the MP3 player.

A bag of money to fall out of the sky, preferably un-marked bills, of a net amount of 5 million or more US dollars.
"When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you."
Unfortunately life doesn't have pixie star magic and wishes rarely come true.

gojira reacted to Point in November/Black Friday/Cyber Monday Wishlist?
I saw a mid-range gamer's build on pcgamer.com (that really is a little above mid-range in my opinion) that is supposedly future-proofed 4 years (yeah right) that runs about 1300 dollars. I would like to get the parts on that list for cheaper. I haven't built a computer in about 15 years so I am looking forward to it but I don't want to break the bank. I don't NEED the rig right now so I am waiting until Black Friday/Cyber Monday. *fingers crossed*

Last time I checked, you don't need a projector to 'netflix and chill', bedsheets are optional however.

Souce; http://www.tweaktown.com/pressrelease/9836/lian-li-announces-pc-q10wx-mini-itx-chassis-market/index.html
If you want some more info about this case, here's the product page: http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-q10/
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
This case seems to be very close to the Ncase M1 as far as the interior layout is concerned, which is a very good thing, given how amazing that case is. Since this is a Lian Li case, the build quality will definitely be superb. It is also at a very competitive price point, seeing as the Dan A4, a smaller sff case that is also being manufactured by Lian Li is set at $250 and the M1 is $185. I'm looking forward to seeing what people do with this case!

gojira reacted to Bogica in "Loose" VRAM thermalpad. Should I be worried?
Yeah, thermalpads are relatively "new". Older high end GPUs didn't have them, the airflow from the ventilators was enough to cool them. However, overclockers used to order them and stick them on the GPU, there were some pretty badass designs!
Anyway, from my personal experience, they are good to have, but no big deal if you don't. I was just wondering if it was a must for a 280, but considering the 280 and 280x run the same memory clock, obviously it's safe.

If you have no experience in disassembling GPUs don't touch it - only if it's a problem. It shouldn't be theoretically.

gojira got a reaction from itzzkolt in Stuck on deciding which card I should get
Well with the MSI GTX 980 Ti you are paying more of a premium for a better cooler, which means a cooler card and pleasant overclocking experience..Oh, and a free copy of Metal Gear 5: The Phantom Pain(I'd take that over Batman any day, huehue). That's really about it. However, if you don't plan on oc'ing or switching out the cooler, might as well get the reference GTX 980 Ti if you'd rather not fork over the cash for a different branded card.
