I've been refreshing pages all night and finally got a link to buy the new Godavari chip on newegg. I built an ITX system and was just waiting for the 7870k to come out so I can see what it can do. I have no idea if the reports of the chip throttling itself under load by cpu-world are correct, since they don't specify which cooler they used. I hope an H60 AIO can cool it enough to get a good OC from it.

The code for the retail package "AD787KXDJCBOX" got me to the link on newegg through an ad of all places, looks like newegg buys google ads before even listing the product on their site! lol.

As of midnight on 5-27 the APU still isn't "searchable" from newegg's site, nor can it be searched for in search engines (probably not crawled yet), but the link to the product exists and i'm sharing it with you guys so you can buy it before AMD even announces it. I know it's been available sporadically since last week, but now it's at newegg, which also means it's available for will call pickup, aww yeah. I'll get it after work tomorrow.

And I'm going to try and build it for under $600 dollars.  I have come here, to one of the largest consortium of tech minds to try and find a way to squeeze out the most bang for the buck.  Here's what I need.

    Capable of 720p at 60fps
    mini-itx or micro-atx form factor
    decent amount of storage
    optional: Looks sexy

    This is not good.
While it looks nice and impressive at first, it has many flaws:
#1 - I already done the prototype side bar Start Menu, and people thought it was stupid. So clearly, people want the Start Menu and nothing else.
#2 - As expressed on my prototype, much like you can see on the one above, you have less items being displayed than the Start Menu. The Start Screen works as it's full screen
#3 - Take too much time. I am not watching a movie, I am using a system.
#4 - The bottom highlight on the Task bar is wasted space. It means that your working area is less for nothing. Some people do more than Facebooking.
#5 - The Start Screen switch is too slow. It looks like modes to switch in between. If someone switch by accident, then what the heck happened? Where is the desktop? Where is anything? How do I get back? Or the reverse hold true. Why should I switch. I want desktop and modern ui apps full screen.
#6 - It goes against Metro UI language in many levels. Metro UI design is supposed to be flat and simple. Here we have glass effect, mixed with margins on the sides and around panels.

    Interesting idea, but a fail.
People current reactions are the same in Windows 8 during development and early screen shots. People were impressed and excited. It came out, it's seen as different, and hated, until 3 years later, where the next Windows comes out, where that one will be hated, and start saying how the previous version of Windows was so much better. And people forget. Much like Windows 7 right now. It was hated and bashed, for the new task bar and "new" Start Menu. OEMs even started to include alternate Task Bars with their system, much like Windows 8 a moment ago, now it looks like they stopped, as more and more people like the Start Screen. There is no denying about that.

The largest drive will come in a 1TB capacity, with 500GB, 250GB, and 120GB versions also available. It looks like chip stacking was used to create such large capacities. Samsung claims 540MBps Read and 520MBps Write speeds. It will be made available globally starting this month, so look out for them!

This will be amazing for slim notebooks that don't have full-size sata ports to accommodate large capacity ssd's!

    Yeah,
Change to AHCI mode, and turn on NCQ if you have it.
    Boot into safe mode
    Then boot into Windows
Now check to see if AHCI was successfully enabled with your favorite desktop program.

If you're changing from IDE to AHCI in the BIOS/UEFI, you must boot into safe mode FIRST, after the change. Then reboot into windows regularly. Freezes are also very commonly caused by static electricity buildup, if your case is on carpet, place some cardboard underneath, and re-plug your internal 24-pin cables to see if there are any bad connections.

    I hope this helps.

My build in a Silverstone SG05 only gives me about 60mm of space for a cpu cooler. Also, given the size of the case, the horizontal dimensions really can't exceed 95-100mm. I'm going to be using this board, there are some other options but I need wifi onboard, and in any case, either the wall of the case or the GPU is about ~100mm away.

I've been looking at the Noctua NH-L9i but it's temps do get pretty high with moderate OC's on i5s. Does anyone know any other coolers besides this that would fit in those dimensions? Its a tough space but that's my goal.

I will have alright airflow considering the case, with a 120mm in the front and hopefully an 80mm exhaust in the back side if it fits okay.

I hope i'm contributing the right information here,

The FX platform on AM3+ has already gotten as "advanced" as it's going to get. With APU's on FM2+ and beyond, they had to start again at the low end, but it has even more room to expand above and beyond what FX could deliver.

Right now, the highest end APU, the A10-6800K, at its STOCK settings can deliver performance similar to the FX-4350. When OC'd it can match the FX-6100~6200 (without going too crazy on cooling).

I expect the new Kaveri A10-7850k to perform at STOCK, equal to the FX-6300, and again, will be able to OC even higher. That's the improvement that we will see on APU's, from Kaveri and beyond. Little improvements every generation, both in CPU and GPU performance (which is a whole different topic).

So please don't criticize AMD for "ditching the high end", they haven't... they're just working their way up again on a different platform.

I hope you can understand my logic here. Thanks :]
