I'm not willing to fork out the money on a 1070 and if I was to I would upgrade my main PC from the RX480 first and I would stick the RX480 from my main PC into my old PC and just use the 480 for VR

It's a "Play Anywhere" title which means you can play multiplayer cross platform (PC and XBox One). If you just play on the XB1 then you can buy the physical disk, but if you want to play on the PC at all, I believe they only offer it as a digital download.

Yah everyone thinks we have magical powers that can fix computers and can somehow magically make the computers work when most of it is so simple and the fact that everyone thinks computers are so technical to the point they just don't look at it and pay attention to it and all the stuff that would be easy and simple like realizing why a website that everyone is using is so slow is oblivious to them and they just think it's because they are connected to wifi which is probably fast enough to handle stuff as heavy as video streaming just fine and is not the problem with them connecting to the site

oh yes. unboxing my 970 and puting in my motherboard was orgasmic, same when i got my CPU cooler.

i had to deal with that shit all the time seeing as in 7-9th grade i was litteraly the IT support at school. it was fun to fix shit, find exploits and stuff but people NOT FUCKING REALIZING THAT THE WIFI SWITCH SHOULD BE ON ON THE FUCKING LAPTOP pissed me off to the point i would barely even handle that shit. i would just say, "restart it, if there is still a problem check the wifi switch and after that bring it to me." but ofc noone listened ever... and now when i started highschool we got laptops, we were told we were getting I7s and GTX970s, we got the worst I5 from the skylake lineup(I5 6200U) and a fire pro card with 1GB VRAM and otherwise basically GTX 660M preformance... that pissed me of seeing as i couldent play CS:GO at 1080p at lowest settings and some people are suposed to use these for video editing, media creation and CAD wrok.... the 2nd and 3rd years even have better laptops then we do...  the main reason im pissed at this tho is that the principal said(translated from Swedish to Engligh by me)"The laptops you are getting are our best laptops EVER, because you cant go backwards in preformance, right?" and we whats basically a 720p machine...

Crash Bandicoot for the origional Xbox Scored it in pretty good condition, the case is in kinda ok condition and is complete with the manual and everything and the disk is flawless with no scratches so it either got treated with one of those repair things before it was sent to me or it was kept in the box most of it's life only being taken out to be played which does seem possible due to only the outside of the case being damaged and the inside being just fine

Also I know my origional Xbox game collection is measly compared to my Wii game collection and my Gamecube collection which you can barely see onthe left side acting as a barrier so the games don't fall off the shelf

I am going to get a lot of the games for the origional xbox and gamecube that I love to play like crash and spyro to name two of them because they just don't make fun cartoony adventure games anymore

SuperShermanTanker reacted to mariushm in Video Encoding Challenge
I've noticed several problems with the video and the whole encoding process.

There's no mention of what encoding quality is expected, if there's some kind of standard of minimum encoding quality, something like that.

Since LMG has very good internet connection, they could very well upload videos with bitrates up to 200 mbps or more and Youtube will accept it and recompress it anyway for viewers, so you have the choice of either configuring high quality encoding parameters and take a lot of time to produce a decent quality 4K file at an average bitrate of about 40-60 mbps, or you could just configure the encoder on ultra fast (higher than realtime) speeds and give it enough bandwidth to consistently produce quality.

For example, x264 (software h264 encoder) can be configured in "constant quality" mode, where each second of video has the maximum quality, ignoring the bitrate. One second could be 50 mbps, the next second with more motion could be 150 mbps, so one 10 minute video could be 2 GB in size while another 10 minute video could be 5 GB, but the quality is consistent throughout the video.
On the other hand, x264 could be configured for a more predictable bitrate, let's say vbr 100 mbps and x264 will spend more time analyzing frames and compress as much quality in an average of 100 mbps for each second. This is close to what Youtube would do when recompressing the video.

Another thing is, multithreading is possible up to a point. In the case of x264, it can use lots of threads, but it's not a good idea to go above 16 threads because the quality starts to decrease (by a very small amount, but enough to recommend not going over 16 threads).
Also, it's in general recommended to not go below about 50 vertical pixels per thread, so for 1080p content it makes no sense to use more than around 12 threads for encoding, as they simply won't work.

So what would you do if you have 2 cpus with 20+ cores and maybe even hyperthreading (though hyperthreading won't matter much when cpu encoding)?  One solution would be to configure x264 to encode using  -stitchable parameter, which means each raw h264 output of the encoder can be concatenated to the previous segment simply by merging the files.

This way, you could launch several instances of x264 configured each to use 8-10 threads and specific quality settings, and set them each to encode 2-5 minute segments of the exported video, and when all instances are done you can just concatenate the raw h264 segments.  You can render the audio separately and then mux the video and audio parts into a mp4 or mkv file.
So instead of encoding several separate videos in a queue, you're working on same video but separate segments and then you glue all of them together.

If the blueray player is semi-modern, it only turns on the fan when it needs to. I recently got an audio/video receiver, and that has a fan on the back that only turns on after around 30 min of use.
