Minecraft Server Build

So I want to build a Minecraft server that can run vanilla Minecraft and is capable of running modded Minecraft and I want something that will be able to handle at least 6-8 players on at once I currently have a Core 2 Quad Q6600 laying around I was wondering how powerful of a machine will be needed and if my Q6600 is fast enough

If you have a Q6600 laying around there's no shame in using that, it will handle 6-8 players just fine. If you're willing to throw in a little money, you can have a 2600K/2700K for very little and it's an absolutely excellent CPU for running a Minecraft server. Hook it up with a 64GB(ish) SSD and 16GB of RAM and you're golden for a 50+ player server.
