Name a budget with a benchmark to beat in either a game, a synthetic benchmark, or something workstation related benchmark or task.

Our computers sound like those! It takes 5 minutes to even boot to the login screen. However we're slowly upgrading, my digital media class just got computers with Xeons and Quadros, so we can finally learn Premire.

Almost every day people turp up saying their games run bad and almost all the time it's caused by AMD's FX CPU line.

I dont think the ECB will give Greece the boot, but that wouldn't solve any problems even if they did.

The problem is Greece's out of control spending and failure to collect tax revenue. As long as those two problems persist, the currency they are using is irreverent.

But I am far from an economics expert and have never been to Greece, I have only been following this story as it has been unfolding.

You should at least ghetto-mount SOMETHING on top to dissipate/absorb the heat. If you have an old PC lying around, tie strap it's heatsink on. Maybe attach the waterblock with no water through it and no tubing, that should keep you for 30 seconds ish, maybe more but I wouldn't push it past 30 seconds if i were you. I've heard of people putting a drinking glass on top of the CPU, with a bit of ice in it (covered, of course, so it doesn't spill).

Find somewhere else to save $70, like on the keyboard, cooler, case, scrap the SSD, whatever to fit an i5 into the budget. Any lesser CPU and you're wasting your money on a 970.

Nope, the Athlon X4 bottlenecks a 280 in GTA5 with 34fps vs the Intel CPU's 72fps,...., more powerful 970 is gunna get the similar 34fps, its all the CPU can muster.

I swear this I've seen this asked at least 3-4 times the LAST 18 odd hours... (Yes I've been awake longer than that)
/And another one just now... hot topic as always.

The architecture behind the FX CPUs cannot keep up with high end graphics cards that require strong cores to consistently feed the card.  Monitor your GPU load in your games and you will quickly see that your GPU is not running at 90%+ if you own a high end graphics card paired with an FX processor.  Use an FX with a mid range GPU all you want, that is fine and you won't limit the card's potential and makes for a much more balanced rig. If you get into the upper echelon of GPUs, that is when you are holding your card back by the FX.  This also doesn't bode well for the future because as GPUs get more powerful, the FX will simply not be able to keep up with even mid-range GPUs.  As of now, the highest end GPU I would pair with an FX that won't limit its potential is an R9 280/GTX770, but its still 'game dependent'.

There are very few games that are very well multithreaded, and even in those games, such as CoD:AW, an i3 is still beating out an FX9.  The reason behind this is because games typically have one main thread, Core #0.  When this main thread is being choked by poor single core performance, the rest of the threads struggle.  So even in these really well multithreaded PC port games, we are still seeing Intel processors beating out FXs because their poor IPC simply can't give as good as results on that main thread.

Even when you pair the FX with a mid range GPU, it doesn't change the fact that some games are largely CPU bound and require strong IPC.  Parallelism doesn't exist in games.  There are not many, if any highly repetitive calculations going on in games that the CPU can guess what is coming next like in video editing or rendering.  They have tricked you into thinking that more cores and higher Ghz is what matters for your CPU, when it all comes down to the architecture and instructions per cycle.

Websites like cpubenchmark.net have a suite of synthetic benchmarks that they run each processor through to spit out a score.  Going by this, the FX8 outperforms the i5 because those synthetic tests are highly repetitive calculations that benefit from more cores.  People see that result and automatically think "Oh, the FX8 is a much stronger processor than the i5."  And in some tasks it is, gaming is just not one of them.

LTT-Users who have bought FX and switched to Intel themselves have had their performance (GPU USAGE) problems removed, as well as better MIN-FPS performance they never had with the FX, which is a HUGE deal, and heaps more info within the link provided.

What exactly do you expect them to do offer unlimited data and not do any throttling so when there are more than a few dozen people near the same tower it just slows everything to a crawl?
It is not possible to not throttle a network and keep the high speed data working well for everyone unless you have a lot of bands. Sprint does not have a lot of bands they get to work with.

And if you truly wanted budget it's not coming from the FX line, 55$ for a 860K and 30$ for a FM2+ motherboard and you got the per core performance then a FX-4350.

You run battlefield hardline at 4k... Of course there isn't gonna be a bottleneck since at that resolution the games become gpu dependent. Also not to mention that the price of the 8350 with a 990 fx board and water cooling is as much as an i7.

I bought an AMD CPU because it would be a few months before I could afford an dedicated graphics card, and the APU served me well. And my other option was the 2 thread Pentium, which is starting to not be enough. Most of my games are a little old, and by the time I could afford a GPU that would be bottlnecked, I'd be able to afford an i5 too. It's not as bad as it sounds if you stick to the low end of the scale, bit I do recognize that Intel is objectively better in most cases. BF4 is the only game I can't keep above 60 fps, and I don't mind 45-50 fps.

Misinformation.  Happens everywhere.  Without setting foot in a southern community, people should not generalize.  Logic (evident to anyone one person) would dictate that regardless of what people say about "southerners", there are tons of decent good people there as well.  Like there are no asshats in the north, really.

That video of the guy (Southern dude) earlier in the thread was enjoyable.  I cannot agree with 100% of what he said, but that is not the point.  I liked his demeanor, his attitude and his knowledge of HIS place in this world.

Growing up should mean more than just getting a job and popping out children.  I can't fathom spending decade upon decade being alive in a privileged environment (yeah, we are in a good place for now), and miss a very real situation of despotism (in one form or another) that points to a systemic (media?) intellectual deficiency issue in our communities.

...and godamnit, I would love to have children... I am getting old man.  One of my current regrets that can be rectified still.

I had a ancient IDE/PATA drive I needed to pull stuff off. I got a USB adapter for it, so I let the drive hang loosely in my case, connected it to my PSU's molex, and ran the USB cable out of the watercooling gromet on the back of the case and into the rear I/O. Not very ghetto, but the closest thing.
I also pulled out some old LEGOs and made a stand to hold my tablet over my head in bed so I could watch YouTube without even looking up in bed.
