just get a custom kernel that has the feature done deal.

Steamtiles - add steam games to metro start menu
Winyl - my favourite music player
KeePass - generate and store passwords in an encrypted application
CCleaner - remove temporary internet files, cache, etc. to speed up applications and free up HDD space
Revo Uninstaller - uninstall applications and clean up any files and registries associated with it.

7-Zip - Because free, and it can do everything WinRAR/WinZip can, in addition to its own 7z compression which is more compact than a RAR
 
VLC media player - To play ALL the media, because Windows Media Player is terrible.
 
RealTemp - Because I'm slightly paranoid about my CPU temperatures while gaming after my SR-2 build literally blew up an AIO cooler.
 
Afterburner hardware monitor - For GPU monitoring. Again, paranoia due to the AIO incident. The FPS monitor is also nice for gaming.
 
LTT Notification extension - To stop me from endlessly refreshing the forum homepage for 10 minutes every time I comment on something.
 
IO Bookmark extension - for people like me who have way too many bookmarks, but can usually identify each one by icon only.

Use Chrome Canary or switch to Opera which based on Chromium.

I thought having a place to get recommendations for small but needed programs would help a lot of people find new ones, including me.
 
For me the key programs I need are:
 
WizMouse - Allows scrolling on non selected windows
F.lux - Controls lighting of your monitor during the day
Pushbullet - I found it by trying to find a program to receive texts on my PC, but I now mainly use it to send links or images between my PC and phone, and also great for notifications, no more constantly checking my phone.
Hotkeys - Gives me a few combinations to launch programs, allow me to use a more minimalistic desktop
Winzip - Personal choice for unzipping files
 
That's all I can think of at the moment, I'm sure I've missed some, and I haven't added browser extensions as I'm sure there are plenty of threads for those.

If you don't need the workstation aspect of it, look at the Rx series cards from AMD. Most (if not all) of them can drive 6 displays (so long as they have enough connectors).

Two of those will run your 8 displays, and then if you want to game, you can crossfire them and play on the displays you have connected to one of the cards and get pretty decent performance as well. If you don't care about gaming, you could step down to a R7 260 or something. You might need a couple passive adapters, depending on what your monitors are, but nothing expensive and it will still be cheaper (and have better performance in basically everything) than that "professional" card.

I thought I would share a project I have been working on for a few years! Some of you may have seen it on other forums or somewhere else but now I have started the work log here as well. It is a fully custom chassis built and designed by me.
 
I have been a long time watcher of LinusTechTips on youtube but I never realized that this forum was here. Because of that I never got around to make a work log here for the whole progress only the last month or so of the build. Anyway I hope you will enjoy it! (Updated the pictures to the final ones and added videos!)
 
History behind the Project:
About 5 years ago I decided that I was going to water cool my computer. Back then I had a Antec P180, not exactly the perfect chassis for water cooling your components. I looked at a lot of different chassis but I was never really happy with any of them. So I started sketching on my own design. First they were really awful, but as time progressed I got better and better at drawing. Early drawings was in MS-paint. I then moved on to Google Sketchup and finally Autodesk Inventor. I have probably gone through about 30 different designs until I finally decided on this one. This was my first custom designed chassis and also my first ever water cooled computer! The basic goal was to design a very quiet high-performing system with a minimalistic and clean design.

I believe you can choose who gets the money. While in checkout there is a slider bar that allows you to change the amount each group gets.

As for myself, I just started to get into computers, at least the building of them at the start of January and this will already be my second build.
 
My uncle builds a new computer about once every 2-3 months, so I guess you can say we share the same blood.

New GPU. As their are no block for the MSI GTX 760. Thinking about an EVGA.  Build a custom loop for the GPU. Black coolant, will look so sick with the contrast of the white case.   I will be uploading pictures as parts come in so you guys will be updated along the way
