MCManiac52 got a reaction from Statik in 8700k Overclock on water
the delid isn't to push the chip further - it's to get better thermal performance with my current config - mounts definitely good, from what others have said it does appear to just be the tim.

Yes it's really bad.
I delidded my 8700k with liquid metal, and with a Corsair H100i 240mm AIO I am running 15-20 degrees C lower under load, but previously I was OC'd at 5.0GHz, now I am at 5.1GHz. This said I have the rad front mounted in a mesh panel case with push-pull fans, but regardless it would make a noticeable difference for sure. If you feel up to it I think it is definitely worth it.

Thanks both,
Just tried and unfortunately neither of those solved the issue. I'll try the update and see how that goes.
Thanks,

MCManiac52 reacted to Draconid in What's the best graphics card for £370?
After watching a few benchmark comparisons the RTX 2060 outperforms the Vega 56 in the majority of games, and as I'm only playing games I think I'll go with the RTX 2060.

You get RTX with the 2060. Although you're unlikely to be using it with only a 60 series card. As others have said, the V56 has more vram. 6GB is enough for most games at 1080/1440 but getting into higher resolutions, high refresh rates and more demanding games, 6gb will soon not be enough. I've always preffered Nvidia cards so I'd go with the 2060 anyway, but that's just personally preference. If you want a direct spec for spec which is better, the V56 is most likely the winner

fair enough, the AOC one looks good although more expensive than the LG ones, to be expected with the higher refresh rate though. I'll look at some reviews of the LGs and the AOC and go from there. Thanks everyone for the help!

MCManiac52 got a reaction from WkdPaul in Is it possible to create a multi-OS installer SSD?
When first creating my drive I tried YUMI and was never able to get it to work properly. Easy2Boot is incredibly easy to use though, highly recommend it

Yes you can, when on the gmail page go to settings, accounts and import, add email address.

MCManiac52 got a reaction from NotKalo in Create image backup of fresh OS install?
Your best bet here would be using sysprep. There are great guides online on how to do this, but basically what you do is install the machine like normal but rather than complete the setup with cortana, you boot into windows, install any software you want, then sysprep the machine and create a custom install image that will install like normal but with all the software you've pre-installed. The best method is with a virtual machine as it can be easier to manager when creating the image.
The guide I followed is this: https://finalthought.org/2018/01/11/creating-customized-windows-10-version-1709-media-iso-wim-flash-drive/

That should work fine yeah, if you're running windows 10, check out ear trumpet in the Microsoft store, it's really nice for switching between audio devices.

MCManiac52 got a reaction from Arika in A Microsoft Surface... in your pocket???
The thing that will sell it for me is if it comes with some sort of Samsung Dex type feature and supports the surface dock/connector. If they make the new device powerful enough, it could be perfect for businesses that have both laptops and mobiles.

MCManiac52 reacted to CrazyCoconut in Boot loop AFTER posting
Well I have eventually managed to fix the issue (I had a lot of exams so it took a while). In the end it was a broken motherboard but it also corrupted the os so I had to reinstall Windows. Thanks to Praxis and in particular McManiac for the help!

MCManiac52 got a reaction from tiandrei in AP vs normal WiFi
Your best bet will probably be to have an upstairs and a downstairs access point, keep them on different channels with different SSIDs and you shouldn't run into any issues.

MCManiac52 got a reaction from Koshigaya in How can I remove the screen without cracking it even more?
If you apply the right amount of heat to the sides of the screen it should come apart fairly effortlessly so you can probably lift the screen off slowly and not make the crack worse.

That may be more difficult if OP has to use a cable direct because of IP settings, the WiFi aspect of things really shouldn't make any difference to the network shares, as long as the signal is all good.
oddly, this is the most appropriate name for a pc I've ever seen

Huh. That's odd, I've never seen that happen before, would love to know why it does and what causes it.

4k doesn't help performance in an fps like overwatch, more frames do.
