2016 Build: 8-core or i5?

I'm planning to use it on 3D Rendering Maya (no add-ons/extensions), and 70% of the time will be for 1080p gaming. I found a store wherein an i5-4590 + ECS Z97 Gank Machine combo would cost around $270. Meanwhile, I originally intended to get FX-8320e + MSI 970 Gaming for a red-themed build. What would be better for 3d rendering as I know both 4590 and 8320e are already considered good for 1080 gaming.

 

Here's the other specs of my build (regardless of CPU-MOBO choice):

RAM - Kingston HyperX 8GB (2x4GB) @ 1866MHz

GPU - Sapphire R9 390 NITRO

HDD - WD Caviar Blue 1TB

SSD - <Will get as an upgrade. I just need to run the system asap>

PSU - Corsair CX500M

Case - NZXT S340 (Black if i5 build / BlackRed if FX build)

well... if you're only gonna buy it in 2016 you may want to wait out a bit before locking in the specs. (rumors say SSDs will be huge *winkwink*)

things constantly evolve, and we never know what the next year will bring.

Seasonic M520 is my second option in this build. I'm already earning for the build as well, planning to get the half by christmas this year.

 

 

I'd honestly go for a low-teir Xeon.

Problem is, low-tier Xeon doesn't exist that much in our country.

Go for a Xeon. It's not going to set you back that much vs the others, but it will wipe the floor with either of them. A (edit:)1230v3 will be fine.

well.. the one you mentioned isnt all that different from an i5 actually... theres some really nice offerings with hyperthread around the price of an i5 tho.

As OP stated there isn't Xeon in their country. If the Phillipines is like where I come from (Vietnam) I can confirm this is true. 1230V3 to import will actually cost more then a locally purchased i7, which is likely out of OP's budget.

I know, my initial statement wasn't finished by the time OP posted his *xeons not here* post.

So what be our ultimate consensus, think ye? I think OP would be better off with a 4590 or a 4790 personally, because more recent platform with newer features and stuff, but the 8320E could be nice. I generally don't advise AMD unless it's significantly cheaper in the Phillipines...

Thanks for understanding that. Xeons and AMD X4s don't exist here. My 2015 build should've been an X4 860K, only realizing X4s don't exists here and shipping would cost big time.

Not sure if AMD is cheaper here, but one store here prices FX-8320e at $128. 4590 costs $206 (already converted from PHP to USD)

In that case I'd go for the 8320e (is normal 8320 not available?)

Do not get the E series they are not worth it its better to get regular FX but then you need a 6+2 VRM motherboard.

 

Also the i5 is also a good option but what you do most work or gaming?

I mostly game 80-85%. Only need the extra cores on 3d rendering (school-based projects/activities), which can only be used once or twice per week

I'm planning to OC 8320e. I have an unused CM Hyper T4 here. If I ever went to Intel route, I'll be using a stock fan though.

 

Is 6300/6350 enough for 15-20% render work per week? I'll be also using that for twitch streaming.

For gaming the FX-63X0 is better because of the higher clock speed but the FX-83X0 is more practical for work. Also why not get the FX-8320? or FX-8350? or maybe the FX-8370? But for the love of cookie do not touch 9000 series!!!

I don't have enough budget to obtain at least the CPU+MOBO+HDD by December this year. I can only attain either 63X0 or 8320E. I could get 8350, but I have to give up MSI 970 Gaming and go for a Gigabyte DSP3 board

either r9 380 nitro by sapphire or any random gtx 960 with red in its design

If you have RAM its not worth buying a new pair of RAM but 1866MHz with CL9 or lower is best match!

hmm.. cool..

 

back to gpu, nitro or 960 is good with 6300? I only found 6300 around our local stores and buying 6350 overseas would double up expenses (shipping and customs are assholes here. bigtime)
