so I checked my windows 10 upgrade thing and nothing appeared, I searched for the update history and this is what I found

 

any idea?

dont be sorry, a lot of people are having windows 7 troubles

 

 

Does it say why it failed or does it just said it failed and that its importance level is "important"

restart pc

check for updates

Doesn't work, i tried updating and rebooting at least 5 times, with no effect

I'm on windows 8.1 pro, it doesn't say anything else, I got this error code : 80240020

then just wait a week or something. microsoft is working they're asses off trying to fix everyon'es problems

Have you tried using the Windows 10 upgrade package from here:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

 

If not then give it a go.

 

Notably I had this entry appear in my update history after running the above tool and clicking "Cancel". Seemingly the act of opening the dialog then not installing the software is seen as a failure.

"PSU brands are meaningless, look up the OEM."

Open up cmd as an adim and type in the following command wuauclt.exe /updatenow then go to control panel, system and security, windows update, and check if its there :)

That tool is actually a tool for both the upgrade process and the ISO download, so it will be able to upgrade your OS in place (assuming it's Windows 7 or 8.1).

I got so fed up on my kids laptop trying to upgrade normal way. that i created a install dvd then ran the dvd from windows and told it to not save anything. Installed a fresh os, installed software via ninite in less than an hr. And that was on a laptop with no ssd. Yet i spent 3 hrs trying to get the fn windows upgrade icon to load and update a fresh 8.1 install to win 10

I just used what @theereal linked and worked like a charm, no I'm on windows 10 not a fresh install too
