what do you do with IDE drives then?

I have a stack of 7 40gb IDE drives...

only the converters will cost more than a 280 gig sata drive.

Don't forget about the Heat Output from the Hard Drive

Only want this cus i have 3 ide drives (about 800gigs) and 2 disk drives i thought i might as well use them

no that only converts the power. If you want to get the data off then a USB to ide adapter is he cheapest way to go. If you want to use the drives in a PC then a pci ide adapter is he cheapest option.

That would work too but the one that @Tedster recommended would be better

that is for using a sata drive with ide power. It wouldn't let you plug a ide drive into a data port on a motherboard.

EDIT:The one that Tedster posted would work.

If you have a computer surplus store near you you may be able to get a ide raid card that will let you use all of those at one. you could probally get that for 30 USD. The other problem is that running a ton of old drives makes lots of heal(almost 100w) and its better(and cheaper including powerbills) to buy a new 1TB drive. Unless you have old system than you need drives for they are useless.
