Good video editing build?

Hello,

I am building a video editing computer for one of my friends. I am not sure if the CPU of GPU is more important so I made it as even as possible.

CPU: i7 5820K

MoBo: ASRock X99 Extreme 4

GPU: MSI GTX 970 4GB

RAM: HyperX 16gb DDR4

PSU: Cooler Master V550

Case: NZXT CA-PH240-W1

HD: Western Digital 1tb

SSD: Kingston HyperX Savage 120gb

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

Total: 1,400$ with extra fans/ CD ROM

Is this a good build? Is there anything I should change?

Thanks for your feedback

I would get an ssd in your build.

An AMD cpu has no place in a solely gaming build, end of.

I3 4150, Intel HD graphics, corsair CX750M, 4gb ram, Asus H81M-E, corsair 230T, Intel stock cooler WD Green 2TB Gigabyte 550TI

I'd recommend getting a 250GB SSD so it can fit your video editing programs as well as the OS

Early 2020 Build : Intel i7 8700k // MSI Krait Z370 // Corsair LPX 8x2 16GB // Aorus 5700 XT // NZXT H500

Early 2019 Build : Ryzen 2600X // Asus Tuff X470 // G.Skill Trident Z RGB 8x2 16GB // MSI RTX 2070 // NZXT H500

Late 2017 Build : Intel i7 8700k // Asus Prime Z370-A // G.Skill Trident Z 8x2 16GB // EVGA GTX 1080 Ti  // NZXT S320 Elite

Late 2015 Build : Intel i7 6700k // Asus Maximus VI Gene Z170 //  Corsair LPX 8x2 16GB // Gigabyte GTX 970 // Corsair Air 240

Looks good. but depending on your software an AMD card like 290/390 might work much better. Better ask her  :)

Does cuda help you a lot ? Do you game on this ?

If it's only for video editing, then maybe a quadro or something else with error correction ? ( idk if that would be useful for your program )

Recommend what is best, not what you preffer.

Ill look to see how pricey they are.

Will do, but would I have to upgrade the PSU?

I think some minor gaming will be done on it.

Sorry, still a newbie here.

Hey man It looks great but check for that CPU cooler tho. I don't think it's compatibile with 2011v3 socket... I'm also building x99 setup and I couldn't find information for that CPU cooler that fits on 2011 socket. I could be wrong. I'll check once again. Just check for sure. Nice build tho. Stick with 970 you will benefit with CUDA cores a lot if you're going to use "ray-traced 3D" rendering.

According to Newegg and reviews this works with LGA 2011.

Hey The_Stig,

The plan looks generally good. As it was mentioned, it would be a good idea to check what software will be used for editing and which GPU would be more beneficial for it. Also I'd get a larger SSD since they tend to fill up pretty quickly especially on editing builds. What is the WD drive that you'll be using? I'd go for at least 2TB because, as I said, editing can fill up the storage pretty fast. I'd recommend going for WD Black: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=b4vt6i
