Is it possible for an Overclock to be stable in some games but unstable in Others

Shaan5

I recently Overclocked my G1 GTX 970 and It was pretty stable in every game I tried with the exception of TW3 which caused my Display Driver to crash, I have since lowered the OC but I'm kind of confused as to why the OC was stable in everything but the Witcher 3

Besides that, The Question is in the title

Yes, some games are fine with +100 or so, others may not like more than +50

IMO a stable overclock handles everything.

Forgive me El Guapo. I know that I, Jefe, do not have your superior intellect and education...

Absolutely............not.

Stability is EXACTLY that.. stable, if its unstable.. its not stable. :)

IMO a stable overclock handles everything.

+Over9000 (cos +1 isnt enough)

OP-  if your keen on keeping it that way..

Make an OC profile for Everything else, and another for Witcher 3.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

The new display driver (352.86) is pretty poop when it comes to overclocking. I've had to make everything back to stock because all games crashed with my OC that always worked for my games before :(.

Totally. Just like an overclock can be stable in one benchmark but not in another. Or stable in every benchmark but not in a certain game. That's why I recommend finding your highest stable benchmark possible and then rolling it back a bit. By rolling it back a bit your trying to ensure that it will remain stable across all games and activities.

I would say based off the definition your OC is not stable.  With that said though I like the idea the one guy had where he said you could just make different profiles for different games.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

So is it yes or no?

I've lowered the OC on TW3 and haven't had the issue since.

Yeap, some games do not like high overclocks.

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case
