Amazon Expands Same-Day Delivery To New Markets, Drops Price To Free For Orders Over $35

Amazon knows what consumers like, that is exceptionally speedy shipping that can outright replace the need to go into a retail store for most of their needs. Now with same day delivery (and even within 1-2 hours), Amazon is poised to make your average Walmart cry at the idea that consumers won't even need to leave their homes to get household items delivered the same day.

 

I'm all for this, the benefit is only going to increase once Amazon starts fielding their drones for local deliveries, cutting out the middle man (in this case, UPS or DHL or FedEx) entirely which will save them even more in the long run on shipping, which is pricey on its own.

 

 

Amazon says today it will expand its same-day delivery service covering around 1 million items to two new markets, San Diego and Tampa Bay, while also reducing the price to free for orders over $35. The company already offers same-day delivery in several regions, including New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco (and the Bay area, including Oakland), Seattle, Atlanta, Boston, Baltimore, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Washington, D.C.

 

Previously, the cost to use this service was a flat $5.99 for Amazon Prime members, who also pay the $99 annual fee to participate in Amazon’s larger membership program which includes free two-day shipping on over 20 million items, plus other benefits like access to Prime Instant Video, Prime Music, a Kindle lending library, and more.

 

Meanwhile, non-members will continue to pay $8.99 plus $0.99 per unit when requesting same-day delivery. Orders, which can be placed seven days a week, have to be submitted by noon to be received by 9 PM that day.

 

This expansion is separate from Prime Now, an even quicker delivery program which offers thousands of everyday items, including household needs and gifts, in select markets. Prime Now currently operates in parts of New York City, Miami, Baltimore, Dallas, Atlanta, and Austin. With Prime Now, orders are delivered within two hours for free, or within the hour for $7.99.

Too bad it's so limited right now. No love to the great state of Beer, Brats, and Cheese. :(

That would be sooooooo handy for when I'm working on one of my projects and I really don't want to have to wait several days/a week (or more if it's coming from China) for something to get delivered.

Level??? there is not a single online store that could rival Amazon in terms of shear size and service so that it unfair and unrelated. Maybe eBay..

But for day one delivery out of experience I'd say ginza comes first to mind, and as far as I know they are online only.

Another one would be webhallen and inet but they also have physical stores.

Already get my items next day even though I get two day shipping from amazon student, their service is fast, just imagined how fast if faa actually approved the drones faster and let them use it  :o

Isnt that bit too low of a requirement ?

Even if there is "Prime members only" or w/e the thing is.

Amazon is the best e-tailer i know of. And yet they are great and freaking cheap.
