Sound card vs DAC

I just bought audio engine's a5+ and Audio engine's D1 dac. I have also been looking at getting the asus rog xonar phoebus. Would it be a waste to get the sound card since I'm using the DAC or would it just be that much better? I know very little about anything audio related. Thanks.

nah, don't waist your money. the audioengine dac is probably going to be just as good if not better.

A soundcard is the same thing as a DAC

To my knowledge only the a2+ has a built in dac.

The sound card won't really do anything and your D1 doesn't really either.

My personal rig - 4790k 4.8Ghz, Asus Z97 Pro (wi-fi ac), Corsair Dominator Plat 4x8GB, SLI GTX 1080 TI FE, Samsung 850 Evo 1TB, Crucial MX100 512GB, EVGA G3 1000W, and cooled by a hardline liquid cooling loop.
