Wheres all your HDD space?

Jonathan W

I get bored easily and I like to read/watch build guides, tutorials, reviews of builds etc. Its fun for me. What I can never understand is how these people can stand to only have like a Terabyte or 2 in their system! I have 4, 1TB drives in my system [1 for games, 1 for my OS/myComputer, 1 for Pictures, 1 for Movies/Music/TV] and 4, 2TB drives for individually mirrored backups...idk maybe I just have to much crap on my system but like

My Games drive is ~3/4 full

My OS/downloads/MyDocs drive is ~1/3 full

My Music/Movies/TV drive is ~1/2 full

My Pictures/3D animation resources drive is ~1/3 full

these are all 1TB WD Caviar Black Enterprise Drives as are my backup drives. I just dont get how people can stand to have like 1 or 2TB WD Blues in their main desktop.

A good friend of mine has a 60gb SSD and a 160gb HDD. They manage fine. This whole "I need lots of hard drive space" thing is stupid as hell. The only reason I have a 240gb SSD is because I got it from a laptop, and my other 500gb drive is for client work in Photoshop. Other then that, I get by with 500gb of space, but I take the time to clean it out every once in a while.

I got a 64GB boot SSD that has less than 1GB of free space and a 1TB HDD for my games etc that has ~200GB left. I'm running out of space :(

Luckily I have a 6TB NAS that stores all our family's pictures, movies, music and documents.

New to Star Citizen? Look no further!

I need 6+ tb and soon, I'll need to get a full backup. Storage is just so easy to fill.

im that guy thatll see a game for free on a steam sale and download it eve if i never intend to play it, just so i have it.

Same thing with Music. Amazon does [itunes used to idk if they do it anymore] a "free album for a week" and if i even kinda like it, ill download it. I mean my Music Folder is ~30 GB..granted I had some file duplication issues transferring all my stuff from my old Mac laptop to my current desktop but even half of that is 15GB which is huge.

I have the same problem with my phone..I filled up the 64GB card i had installed super quick with apps, games, music, HD pictures and videos, so i had to buy a $100USD 128GB mSD card for it

ORLY?

BRB.

700GB in movies.

700GB in games.

70GB of program installers.

10GBs of digital books from my school.

160GB of unsorted media. (games/movie/porn) (need to shuffle data again.)

237GB of pron.

106 GB of music.

~80GB of old computer backups (7GB of an onld 98/ME OS, 29GB of an XP OS, 50GB on a win7 OS)

double diet dew, you dew the math.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

Yeah. 90+ steam games, 56gb of music, 4-5 tb of photos and videos. My camera's sd cards are always full, and I have another ~100gb of photos to edit.

So More hard drives == good.

I don't really need all that space, but I do like speed. I would rather have a 500gb SSD than 1pb of HDD. (actually, a petabyte might be good for bragging rights). All I store on the drive are games, programs (browser, photoshop) and files for those programs. All in all it's about 100gb everything but games and 400 is more than enough for all my games. I don't see the point of downloading video. It can be accessed online, and you're not going to take your desktop away from the ethernet cable (or wireless) which can access it almost as quickly. It just doesn't seem worth it to me to spend an extra $50 + $50 more if I want it backed up on HDDs.

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.

And you're telling me all of this is necessary to have? 70GB of program installers? Old OS backups? This is a good example of a very unorganized PC.

I like to archive old PCs. because nostalgia.

yes, i have used those program installers for freinds, myself, and class mates more times then you might believe.

it's very organized, just packed full.

it's like a file cabinet, labeled, sorted, but packed to the brim with files.

but at least it isn't scattered and unsorted all over the floor. (like the 160GB unsorted section, it's on the desk waiting to be filed)
