Can I game full screen across 3 different monitor resolutions?

kdsjr123

Hi, I have 1 1680x1050 monitor and I will be ordering 2 1920x1080 monitors. Will I be able to game across all screens or do they all have to be the same resolution?

As far is I know, you will have to have the same resolution on all your monitors, at leased with Nvidia.

I belive they all have to be same resoulution! And i am not a fan of more then one screen when playing a game cause it splits it up and u may get different input lag on the 1680x1050 which may look funny!

they can be different resolution but it will have a strange shrinking effect when you move windows around

No. The two 1080p monitors will have to adopt the lower res monitors' resolution, stretching the image out.

Which is a shame really. If you're looking at the centre screen and are using the outside screens for peripheral vision you don't need high resolution because of how the eye works.

Instead of getting 2 1920x1080 monitors could I get 2 1680x1050 and will it work? Also does it matter how big the monitors themselves are? For an example can 2 monitors be 22" and the other 1 be 20"?

If you're using Windows, then you can use AMD's eyefinity or nVidia's surround gaming depending on which video card you have and whether you video card supports that feature. Most midranger and up cards do support it.  But the resolution will be limited due to your 1680x1050. Your 1680x1050 will give you an out of range error if you try to increase it passed its native resolution.

nVidia's Surround Technology is Windows only. :(

as far as I know they all need to be the same resolution to create an SLS (single large display) using AMD eyefinity.

you can run them all as separate screens at native res and then run the app in a window and stretch it across all screens however you will either get a zoomed in cropped section on the low res screen, or get a full image on that one and have bad letter boxing on the 1080 panels...

you will need to set the res on all screens to be 1680x1050

Either way the REAL issue here is that the aspect ratio on the screens is different your running one 16:10 and two 16:9 - the image on the two 1080p monitors will be stretched to 16:9 (but rendered at 16:10)

There is to the best of my knowledge only ONE game that will see a benefit in your set up and that is Grid: auto sport - it has a built in "second monitor" option to run a second screen independently with a "tv cam" style spectator view - its useless for playing but neat to show your friends of make use of that second screen.

tldr; no this will not work correctly and will be an abomination of a surround set up. it will hurt my feelings if you proceed to game on this in surround

sell the 1680x1050 and buy a second hand / new matching panel to suit the other two you are buying.

the linux surround thingy can run them at different resolutions there is a shrinking effect with the smaller res monitors

On my grandma's A6 APU, I had to take her 1080p monitor to something stupid like 1920x1024 to use it with my Dell monitor. Granted, I was getting over 100FPS in Half-Life 2, but it looked horrid on the 1080p monitor.
