I need a quiet, cheap CPU cooler

STRMfrmXMN

So the old ball bearing cooler (no idea what brand - from a prebuilt) sounds like it's starting to go.

I need a quiet CPU cooler (one that can be bought from Fry's - gift cards ;)) for my old Core 2 Quad. Budget is around 30 dollars.

Thanks!

How quiet is it though? I'm one of those weird people that need utter silence before performance.

Be Quiet Shadow Rock 2. Same price as Evo, slightly better cooling performance, quieter.

Well since your running an old CPU. It won't heat up as much under load, so it'll keep it cool and silent

It gets to about 45 on the third and fourth core. 54 solid on the first.

Nonetheless, it just seems overkill. What about the Hyper TX3 or 101?

Never used those before. But the 212 is good if you plan to upgrade. It can keep a 4690k cool and quiet as well.

If I were to upgrade I would get a Core i3 and since it's locked it just seems so freaking overkill to get a big ol heatsink.

Please read the original post. If it isn't on Fry's then it's kinda out of the question.
