Disk management finds drive, but file explorer does not.

aidenrelkoff

So my dad got an samsung 840 EVO SSD 500Gb.

He need there to be a ~200gb partion for a windows xp install and the rest can be a win 7 partion, ~300.

So in disk manager sees both partions, i made them on that very computer. and it all looks good. But even after a re boot they are not seen in file explorer.

Note: This is not his laptop, i did this on my secondary/test bench pc.

Make sure the second drive Disk 1 does not have the same drive letter assigned to it. Right click on the partition (section on the right) and pick Change Drive Letter and Paths to check what drive letter is assigned to it, if C then change it to some unused letter.

-----------------

Update: its actually your Win_XP and Win_7 partitions which are probably assigned the C driver letter as well, note no letter is displayed. If you do change them you'll have to change them back before mounting them as the OS disk or it will cause major issues to those OS's.

Don't install windows xp on an ssd, its not designed for it, and can reduce the lifespan of the ssd.

how badly, because win XP is a must. he has programs for his vibration anilizing equipment that were last updated for win xp.

if its quite bad then he might have to stick win an hdd.

Have you even tried if the software might not still run under Windows 7?

I wouldn't recommend using XP much longer, since Microsoft's support for it ended, and there will be no more security bug fixes supplied...
