Audio. I can play a game on low settings with great audio and it can be very immersive

A nice pair of stereo headphones does wonders for immersion!

Both but I find audio to be very very important it sets the mood and atmoshpere, gives you clues, and tells you an awful lot

 

I bet you could watch a film and get a better experience listening only than you could watching without sound

I am actually upgrading my experience in gaming.

21:9 monitor or a quality pair of head phones ((I currently have a gaming headset) ATH WS99 or beyerdynamic custom one pro?)

which one first?

Audio imo unless you're playing at low res old monitor

I find that it's really a balance of both. A movie with great cinematics but a horrible score will be equally bad as a movie with bad cinematic and a great score. But, if you have the combination of good scoring and good cinamatics, you're golden.

Audio but unfortunately the techniques we have available are mostly focussed on either headphones or a very well spaced out 5.1 setup. Both aren't realistic in most cases.

I'd personally go for both, Video without audio sucks, Audio without video also sucks, I like a mixture of them. To get me really immersed into it. especially in gaming. Makes it feel more realistic.
