What's the worst that can happen if you buy a windows key that may not be legit?

Can anything happen to your system, or is the worse thing that can happen is your key expires?

Microsoft detects it's not genuine and gives you 30 days to make it genuine or you lose windows.

You wouldn't be able to activate windows, that's really the worse thing that can happen.

Pretty much the only things that happens is that you only get the updates that you really need, you wont be able to keep a wallpaper and you wont be able to make a custom "Theme".
Atleast that how it is in win7.

Loosing key/OS install is really small hit in my books. I'd say worst things that can happen are 1) you loose money 2) your credit card infos are stolen and you loose even more money 3) depending on law where you live, it can be seen as pirating and you can get charged or otherwise included in legal process. And you will loose money.
