140mm static pressure fans

Rust

So I'm getting the Phanteks PH-TC14PE and I want to replace the stock fans with more quiet and

efficient ones.

I can't go with noctua fans unfortunately since my case has a window ;), also the middle fan can only

have 25mm in depth.

In all seriousness though I'm all for performace>appearance but in my opinion they could at least look neutral especially considering their cost.

Linus uses a combination of gelid wing 12s(not available in eu) and silverstone air penetrators (120mm) in his rig so considering how many fans he had his hands on that strongly speaks for them.

Other than that I've heard so many good things about the noiseblocker eloops I'm considering one of them for the side of the heatsink though they are only available in 120mm versions at the moment(would I lose a lot of cooling performance?) and I'm not sure if it would fit, though the phanteks site says their 140mm fans with 120mm mounting holes are compatible with the ph-tc14pe.

I guess if the noctuas really are the end all be all I might go for the industrial ones(the brown anti vibration pads would still piss me off).

In an older review I've even seen the phanteks ph-f140 fans perform pretty well so maybe it's not even worth it to exchange them? I do value silence highly though.

As you may have noticed I'm pretty lost on the subject so I'd really appreciate your input.

I'm using them the same cooler right now and I must say the stock fans push A LOT of fucking air through the fins, but they are pretty damn loud as well.

The brown vibration pads can be removed from the industrial noctua fans.

Noctua industrial NF-A14 fans

The cooler uses 140mm fans with 120mm mounting holes. If 140mm fans were to be used, they would need to have 120mm mounting holes.

I guess if the noctuas really are the end all be all I might go for the industrial ones(the brown anti vibration pads would still piss me off).

The rubber corners are removable. Depending on the theme of the case, I'd suggest taking a look at the P14 redux fans, 120mm Akasa Apache/Rosewill Hyperboreas--basically nerfed Noctuas imo, or Industrial NF-F12's from Noctua if you're really down for spending the money.

Oh wow so many replies. Sovietonion yeah that's what I feared...

@WoodenMarker I wasn't aware the cooler uses 120mm mounting holes, Phanteks has both normal 140mm fans and 140mm fans with 120mm mountings on their web site listed as compatible with the cpu cooler but I'm gonna trust you on that. Do you use the Akasa Apache or Rosewill Hyperboreas? How do they and the air penetrators compare noise-, performance-, noise/performance-wise?

As for the industrial noctuas, I don't know it seems kinda silly to me to buy such an expensive fan only to remove part of its features.

I checked the site to be sure. When they mention compatibility for 140mm fans, I think they refer only to the size of the fans but not the mounting holes since the clips are spaced for 120mm holes.

I don't use them in my personal rig--the only fans in my system are Noctuas, a 200mm NZXT fan, and some slightly modded Twin Frozr III fans. I have built several systems with Hyperboreas and in restricted scenarios, seem to perform somewhere between NF-P12's and NF-F12's while being a bit louder.

Hyperboreas and Air Penetrators are very similar with Hyperboreas performing a bit better and being slightly quieter. http://www.anandtech.com/show/6391/120mm-radiator-fan-roundup-part-2-fan-harder/6

Just to be clear: Hyperboreas are just rebranded Apaches.

Those numbers look really compelling. Ok so now I've got to decide between the industrial Noctuas and the Apaches.

Would the fans being smaller be an issue in terms of performance or is that more than compensated by the quality of the fans?

I'm planning to do some heavy overclocking on a 5820k so I need good cooling performance.

Thanks for your detailed replies WoodenMarker I haven't seen that 120mm fan roundup before.

The smaller fans will push less air but will generally have better static pressure. Don't expect to get better performance than the stock fans unless you're getting the Industrial Noctua fans.

Okay well then it's probably going to come down to either the noctuas or stock fans. I hope I'm not bothering you too much with this but you said you have Noctuas and you have built with Apaches, is the effect of the anti-vibration rubbers noticeable?

Yes, they're noticeable. The effect is smaller with noctua fans though since they don't vibrate much in the first place.

Okay thanks a lot for your help I'll see how noisy the stock fans are and get the Noctuas if needed.
