That looks suspiciously similar to that leaked MSI 'Z97' board...

They could at least have used Z87. There are boards for much cheaper than these will be using the Z87 chipset. I would consider Z87 to be "mainstream." These seem like boards they just put out to catch unsuspecting people that don't know any better by charging a bunch for a terrible board. (at least for the money)

...b85, really?

much better options out there, looks like a typical mediocre motherboard with some gaymin marketing.

hell there are much better 'entry level' options than this 3/10 based on observations and information given.

I think this is the first time ASUS have actually copied MSI on something like this.

IMO the whole motherboard tiering thing is bologne, it either has the top chipset on it or not, everything else is either just featureset or very marginal overclocking benifits.

Well the B85 chipset makes sense for a "mainstream" gamer. This is definitely not for most of us here on the forum though.

I must have missed the "smart consumer" category of people who don't waste money on useless extra mobo features that add nothing to performance.

If I'm not mistaken, you can actually overclock on B85. Logan made a video on how they overclocked on an asrock b85 killer motherboard. The only problem is the reduced feature set, which most average consumer won't care about
