RAM takes longer to refresh above 85C - does it matter for normal world use?

I just ran across this article that says RAM has double "refresh time" at 85C temperature. Does RAM get to 85C in any real world conditions? If so, is this difference noticable in benchmarks? Is this why some RAM comes with "radiators"?

I always thought fancy RAM modules are just for show and LEDs but if it actually needs cooling, perhaps I am mistaken. Educate me!

No, modern DDR RAM gets NOWHERE near 85*C.

You're looking at the under 40*C ... maybe 50*C if you are doing some crazy overvolting.

 

They are not "radiators" but rather metal heatsinks / heatspreaders.

They are what the name implies ... even distribute the heat across the entire RAM module and helps removes the heat.

Heatsinks aren't necessary, as I mentioned RAM doesn't get very hot, and is more of an aesthetics thing (all looks / style).

I could see RAM even reaching up to 60*C in cases with terrible air flow, but 85*C would take an active effort to reach.  And even then you'd have to make a very concerted effort to get there.
