HELP!! Is this ok?

Go to solution Solved by SupaKomputa,

The question is, do you need a heatpipe for that motherboard?

Does the heatpipe mandatory?

I don't think so, that heatpipe only serves as gimmick, to make it look like its specially made for overclocking.

Yeah it might help if you're overclocking, but in regular usage, its just the same as regular motherboard without the fancy heatpipe.

So if i were you i'll search my old pc parts and salvage some heatsink, and just stick it with some double tape.

For southbridge ill get a bigger heatsink with longer fins, or maybe an old cpu cooler, stick it with superglue.

If you cannot get it from old parts they sell custom heatsink for electronics in ebay.

so I am trying to build a budget pc with x58/X5675 and found a deal on eBay for an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 it was $40! I quickly went and bought it then soon after realised it didn't have the thing in the picture that  I circled. what is it? is it bad if it isn't there? If I need it can I buy a new one? OR what should I do

idk what this is and if it dosent matter .png

Erm... That's the heat pipe for the VRMs, and/or Southbridge or Northbridge chipset - kinda important to keep those things cool. You may have to see if you can find a replacement on eBay, or just try booting without it. But don't be surprised if it overheats and shuts down.

Not really, those are custom made only for the boards and aren't sold individually.

You can google "small heatsinks" to find small heatsinks you can stick on instead using thermal adhesive.

can only get one from another board sharing the same PCB layout (which is close to saying 'the same board'). Ask the seller to get it to you, or just use Ebay's system to get your money back.

Also that price is outrageous.

Agreed, you can buy a completely NEW motherboard for significantly less than that.

OP: As I mentioned in the other thread, if you bought this as a "working" board send it back. Finding adequate heatsinks to fit on all those chips is going to be A. expensive, B. time consuming, and C. very difficult.

Just get a packet of those and some thermal tape/pads and place them on top of the mosfets and chipset. As long as you have adequate airflow in the area it should be fine.

x58 definitely needs the heatsinks, everything on those boards is a housefire waiting to happen

Yes, but you can make custom heatsink, no heatpipe required really. I can see other X58 without heatpipe.
