Dual core in 2018?

Hi im looking to buy the 2018 macbook air I really like and generally am pretty sold on it except for the fact that it has a low power dual core i5 , if I only browse the web and do basic task will this be a handicap?

Not in basic tasks. Those dual core i5s are basically pentiums so you'll be fine.

It wont, but you should ask yourself why you would spend 800 dollars on a laptop for that. This is why cromebooks exist

Yeah there are way cheaper devices that will achieve the same result, I don't see a point in getting an Apple if not for bragging rights.

Why whould you spend that much on a laptop for just that anyways

i had to use a duo core just now waiting for the 9900k, very basic tasks only, and expect some freezing once in awhile when the cpu is used up by whoknowswhat, imho u can hunt for a quad (i've seen them on sale for cheaps, or look at the quad surface)

The 2018 Macbook air is thin, so they had to use an ultra-low TDP chip.

It would be using the i5-8210Y, i5-8200Y, or i7-8500Y -- these are 7W chips.

Keep in mind, they are 2-core 4-thread chips.

 

For basic day-to-day tasks, school work, and web browsing, it will be enough.

 

Personally though, I would look or something else.

There are ultrabooks or other thin laptops in the market that uses Intel's i5-8250U, and i7-8550U.

They are 4-core 8-thread CPUs with a TDP of 15W (can be reconfigured up to 25W, or down to 10W).

 

Just throwing it out there, my Lenovo T480 uses the i5-8250U.
