CPU Indecision

So I am in the process of updating my rig and the only thing I left to buy is the cpu, however I find myself waffling back and forth between a couple options partly because I am cheap and partly because I have trouble committing.  Anyways, I can't choose between the 8600k, 8700k, or 9600k.  Performance is important to me, and I plan to oc whatever I go with.  I will be gaming exclusively on this rig, I play a fair amount of fps and rpg games. GPU is a 1080ti. Mobo is a Gigabyte Aorus Gaming 7 z370.

8700K and don't look back

I've got the 8086k, which is basically an 8700k. very pleased by the performance, so if you're gonna put the CPU to work, It should be your go to.

 

edit: also, it seems that due to your indecision, you're going to regret whichever you buy, so you might as well have buyer's remorse and a more powerful CPU instead of just the former.

9700k if u aren't delidding the 8700k, forget the 8600k and 9600k

I would not consider the 8600k or 9600k, get the 8700k or 9700k. I love my 8700k, it will perform amazingly for gaming. You can OC it to an easy 5.0GHz no problem but with the 8700k expect to see some higher temps unless you de-lid.

You don't need to delid the 8700K to get 5ghz and above 5ghz there is no difference in gaming.

depends on the res, the actual difference is small but there is one at the top end, and i've seen 8700k not able to crack 4.8 not delidded, why take the chance now the 8086k is basically higher binned 8700k. 8/8 runs cooler than 6/12 if he isn't delidding either chip. Anyway that's just how i feel about it, people will keep buying the 8700k over the 9700k anyway even if they don't delid.

Going through Hardware Unboxed 45+ games benchmark most of the time overclocking the i7 8700K will not even show performance differences as you get GPU bottleneck on 2560x1440p already.

 

Yes it depends on the game and display settings but all in all I'd say delid is more of just an enthusiast/hobbyist kind of thing for that Cinebench score.
