Do Haswell CPUs still hold up?

I am considering buying a used Thinkpad t440p dirt cheap and then throwing in an i7-4900MQ.

 

I will probably run linux on it and do it for some light programming/web browsing, while continuing to have a main desktop at home.

 

Will I run into any issues by using such an old CPU? Lets say if I am doing web development, or using Android Studio etc.

Age and performance isnt a problem (if anything, it will be more stable because it's more likely for possible bugs to be discovered and fixed), while still being plenty fast (roughly on par with 8th gen U chips). However compatibility of that system with this CPU is a concern

Even the i5 model of the t440p would hold up well today, especially running a Linux distro on it. 

As long as you're not looking to do gaming or any sort of rendering you'll be fine. 

 

You may also want to look into getting an extended battery, that 4900MQ chugs power (49w) 

 

If anything you'll end up missing having a numpad
