low single core performance 7700hq

h1cham

hi,

so i'm having this problem with this cpu where single thread perfermance is lower than it's supposed to be, while multicore are running as expected

i'm on a gs73vr 7rg msi laptop, with i7 7700hq and gtx 1070 max-q

any ideas on what might be causing this?imageproxy.php?img=&key=17c10421afdc6db8

there aren't going to be a whole lot of programs that only use a single core or aren't smart enough to have more instances and also use other ones

Are you on wall power and have you set your performance mode (on the battery logo) to 'Best performance'?

I get 393, 2013 single and multi core scores on my 7700HQ (in an Asus notebook).

The i7-7770HQ has a configurable TDP, choosing between 35W and 45W.

You didn't provide any support information, but it looks like your CPU is running at the base 2.8 GHz, instead of boosting above that.

It is capable of boosting up to 3.8 GHz -- if temperature and TDP allows.

Run xtu and see why you are throttling.

You're either thermal or power throttling or both. It is a gs73 which is thin and light so no big surprise.

I'll download Cinebench and run it on this machine real quick, but keep in mind CPU performance can differ between two CPU's of the same kind, just because of the way they are made.

But anyways, I ran Cinebench single core too and got 147. The difference is either just form fluctuation between CPU and CPU or from background programs (I just closed the program I had open on my laptop, not anything special).

If it is one of the thinner 15inch msi laptops you wont be able to go much higher since its cooling isnt great.

Also dust in laptops does a lot. A guy at school only had 20 fps in csgo on his 7700hq before getting out al the dust.

I have a msi leopard 17inch blabla 7700hq 1050ti and my cpu had never had problems

I am here to learn, please correct me if im wrong or you see me putting bs on your screen!

3.39 also. I have no idea what it could be. And i doubt that for such a shory test it would be cooling. My fan didnt even go any faster.
