Noob question:

 

Can I switch out motherboards without any setup If all my other hardware including the boot drive remains the same?

Remember when we couldn't swap mobo's cuz of chipset and mobo drivers?  Kids have it so easy these days!

 

I've always done a fresh install with motherboard upgrades cuz I had to and it's ingrained now.  Clean and fresh.

 

You may need to activate Windows again, but Microsoft support can help you or you can just get a key a myriad of ways.

It will work but there is a chance you will need to reinstall Windows OR re-enter your Windows license key.

Not stuck, it can be done and just a few steps to make it all work fone.  What's the reason for the change, something not work right, or more features?

No, nothing is broken. I wanted a motherboard with more m.2 slots, but I don't need one right away. A new motherboard is a 'nice to have' and not a 'need to have', so I'm willing to wait until my hardware completely stops working or a huge sale goes on or something.
