Is It Possible to game on A mining gpu (no output port)?

vawa.id

I have a thought to buy evga gtx 1060 6gb mining edition (USD 131.68) with no output port.

I have read about using Nvidia GPU with AMD APU, but I don't have AMD APU, in fact, my system is quite old: intel core i3 3210 - Biostar H61MLD (I bought mobo and cpu from a prebuilt system).

Currently, I'm trying to use my Rx 460 (with vga to hdmi active adapter) without using its ports. But if I enable IGD/PEG in bios menu, my monitor won't detect any input. It is only possible if I use IGD only in bios.

So my question is: is it possible?

if it is not possible, should I get used gtx 1060 3gb (USD 144.84) or RX 580 4gb (USD164.59)?

sorry for bad english

For a mere $15 in difference, the actual gaming gtx 1060 will more than pay for that extra $15 in resale value in the future (like 400% more). That no display output card will be useless to resell quite quickly.

Gaming - Ryzen 5800X3D | 64GB 3200mhz  MSI 6900 XT Mini-ITX SFF Build

Home Server (Unraid OS) - Ryzen 2700x | 48GB 3200mhz |  EVGA 1060 6GB | 6TB SSD Cache [3x2TB] 66TB HDD [11x6TB]

you can go SLI with a mining edition card then sure why not if it's much cheaper that way. Otherwise, hell no.

1060 doesn't support SLI.

I would skip the mining card and get a RX 580 (preferably an 8gb) or a 480 (8gb). Does your monitor support Freesync by chance?

Fun fact: it does work in MDA or LDA. Tho not officialy supported, and will not work in many new games.

More for workloads i guess :S

you can probably pass the video signal through the IGPU but i wouldnt get a mining edition card

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

8gb is beyond my budget, and my monitor is still using vga (1366x768)

rx 460 is better than having no card and that's it, it sucks even in 768p. And I'd rather buy i7-3770 for USD 80 since upgrading to ryzen is a hell lot of money.

a 1060 full fat should be a little more if you wait a month or two. Else a 1050ti. A mining edition is asking for trouble.

im not sure how exactly you would set it up, i just assume it can be done as there was some stuff about NVIDIA cards being passed through an AMD APU and getting Freesync(though i think it wasent actiual freesync and something else). Can probably be done in the BIOS if the chip and motherboard support it.

warframe (medium to low), fortnite (in the lowest setting possible, still lagging). I have to lower my desktop and in game resolution to 720p to be more enjoyable.

True on most AAA title it's fine (I tried shadow of mordor, batman arkham origin, nier automata), but in the title I usually play, it's bad.

Microsoft doesn't really test updates before they send them out.

You should keep windows on a small 200GB partition if you don't have an SSD so it's easy to reinstall.

Try using a newer or older driver after using the DDU to uninstall the current one.
