Looking for a build for my girlfriend she doesn't do any major gaming mostly just to use for school and work. (although she might wanna play the sims etc)

  • Budget & Location

My Current Budget is 600 USD, this being a minimal basic computing build.

  • Aim

I would like this build to be able to be used for the next 7 years if possible. Since its only used for basic browsing and school assignments etc.

Aesthetics:

This will be chosen by my girlfriend after the basis for the build is chosen.

  • Monitors

I plan on running 1 Monitor.

  • Peripherals

If you can recommend any simple mouse, keyboard combos it would be helpful and appreciated.

  • Why are you upgrading?

She currently has a mac book and loves it but would really like a PC, plus I'd like to kinda inch her away from apple products and I think this'll be a nudge in the right direction.

I would recommend getting a ryzen 2400g (has integrated graphics and since she isn't gaming she won't need more than this), 8gb of ddr4 ram, a b450 motherboard, any bronze rated power supply at or above 450w, and any atx case that she likes. This should only cost around $500 also recommend getting windows from a place like cdkeys to save a buck and for peripherals sorry I don't know that much just check Amazon reviews and pick what you like I guess. I hope this was helpful.

I think the macbook she currently has would be much better for school. She likes it and is usable anyway.

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

Inside some old case I found lying around.

Totally forgot also recommend getting a SSD for the operating system/programs she uses often and a cheap hard drive for storing mass files.

She actually plans on giving it away soon so this would be to replace her main driver. So any suggestions?

I would say stick with what you got, she sounds pretty good. You can upgrade parts but it can introduce problems. Don't spend large amounts early on or you may set a precedence.

Be gentle.

If you're interested in a product please download and read the manual first.

That doesn't sound like a great idea.

Buy her a portable SSD.

Buy hey a portable SSD.

Yeah external ssds are as cheap as portable hdds, but they are much more resistant(some are even ip68 and almost all are very drop resistant) and they are also much lighter and smaller than hdds.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

Score.

If you wanted to stay on the cheap end you could get something like a Ryzen 3 2200G. Quad core CPU with built in Vega 8 graphics. Not going to handle intensive games, but The Sims 4 will be fine (might crank down the settings). 8gb DDR4 ram will be fine. Look at something like the MSI B450-A PRO motherboard. Doesn't need to be that board obviously, but you'll want something with the B450 chipset (not B350) and display outputs (that one has VGA, DVI, and HDMI).

I looked at those motherboards and theres a lot of trouble around having to somehow update the BIOS for the newer amd apus. I'm making a non-apu build to make it easier on them

in that case this build is great! (sorry for mistake Herman)

It can handle some light gaming very well and should be good for everything else you wanted. If you want to change it Herman has done a good job of keeping the price low so you have a good amount of the budget left to expand if you want to.

If she needs a computer for school, why not get a laptop. Plenty of laptops can play Sims. Laptops are SUPER convenient for school. Why is she giving away the Macbook?

She's actually giving it to me to replace the laptop I'm currently using which is an AMD A6-7310 4GB RAM.

She really just wants a PC to feel more official lol and I wanna give her something that'll do what she wants super well. She still plans on getting a laptop, this isn't a logic situation as much as its a pleasure situation lmao
