~30%-40% has been the average throughout history when comparing what's being released vs. what it's replacing. Usually it requires a game or application specifically designed around the GPU's new features to make the new GPU kick the old one into the curb. There have been exceptions of course, but this has been the trend.

 

But ultimately, if you don't like it, don't buy it. Clearly there are enough people who want the RTX series, so there's no reason for NVIDIA (or anyone else in their shoes) to cave into people who either don't like what they're doing or can't afford it.

No one's forcing you to buy a 2080 Ti. Turing isn't simply a refined Pascal; it does pack a lot of new tech with it (the tensor cores, the ability to deal with a proprietary ray-tracing pipeline in real-time, GDDR6, etc.) and with new tech comes higher prices.

If the market doesn't support the price, then Nvidia will have to adjust.  Since there is not anything that competes with the 2080 Ti at this time, Nvidia is the only one that can set the price.
