Triple monitor 4k gaming?

Raytheon 88

I just ordered the RTX 2080 directly off of Nvidia website. Will this new card be enough to run triple 4k monitor gaming smoothly? Or am I just being unrealistic? I currently own triple 1080 monitors, but would like to upgrade to triple 4k monitors.

No one knows anything about these cards.

But even if, the upgrade in performance from 1080 to 2080 will probably be minimal.

Assuming performance is increase 5-10% better than the 1080, it will not run games very well, especially on 3 displays

If the benchmarks we've heard of so far come true, it will not run 4k games at all.

I skipped the 10xx series entirely. I upgraded from a 980>2080 and idk where you got 5-10% from, every article I've read states 25-30%.

Well 3840x2160x3= 24883200 (2488x3200)

As a non gaming display output resolution you'll be fine but for gaming, 2488x3200 is a lot of pixels to push. With no actual data on the performance of the card I can't tell you for definite but I doubt you'll be gaming on 3 4K displays.

There was a rumor of a benchmark for a game running in 1080p that was only getting around 50fps or something of the like

of course thats with RTX enabled, but still doesnt speak well for if its disabled

Put aside RTX for now, the "traditional" gaming performance we can make an intelligent guess on based on core count and clocks. It will be an improvement and a single card could finally deliver higher fps at 4k.

On the OP's desire to run 3x4k... not if you care about fps. At a guess, a 980 isn't that powerful anyway, so I'd assume running 3x1080p on it already requires lower settings to balance frame rates. How about splitting the difference, 3x1440p? Would still be a noticeable upgrade from 1080p without making the performance demands too high.

Also consider a single ultra-wide monitor. It isn't as wide as 3x 16:9 displays, but would it be sufficient? Would help take the load down a lot.

This thread seems really weird, time to clean some stuff up.

It is 5-10% better than the 1080TI  ,so 20-30% better than the normal 1080.

With raytracing on. You can turn the raytracing off and use it as a normal 1080ti(or very slightly better) card(so 4k high at 60 with a single monitor).

That is some very weird math. Your displays wont merge into one, also what? The real resolution would be 11520 x 2160. (3 4k monitors side by side)

And finally to the @Raytheon 88. The rtx 2080 will be about gtx 1080ti level of performance, so prepare to be dissapointed. The gtx 1080ti can't push a single 4k monitor at ultra graphics 60fps(i was really dissapointed at that), so you would have to put the graphics to low/very low to push 3x4k at over 30fps.

I agree with @porina, get a single ultrawide or ultra ultra wide monitor, then there wont be any annoying screen gaps too.

Yeah, that part was especially weird: 24883200 (2488x3200)

What were you doing here? 2488 x 3200 = 7961600.

7 961 600 =/= 24 883 200

I just added this monitor to my Amazon wish list, thanks for the tip. Looks alot nicer than my current x3 27" 1080p monitor setup!

Old thread - but..

I have 3 4k monitors running on a 1080 ti.  I can run most games at max settings around 30fps.

Games like shadow of the tomb raider i have to turn down to medium settings..  its mostly the shadows that cause frame reduction.

I am interested to see what kind of different a 2080 ti would make on my rig.  photo attached.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but a question. What monitors are those?
