Upgrading from a 1070 GTX ASUS ROG

Michael93

Hey guys!

Hope you guys can give me some input in what card I should choose as my next one.

My system is of now:
MOBO: ASUS ROG z370-h
CPU: I5-8600k
GPU: ASUS ROG 1070
RAM: 16 gb ddr4 vengance 3000mhz
PSU: 550W Corsair Vengance.

Monitor: ASUS ROG 1440p 165hz. (Can´t remember the model)

I have the 1070 overclocked to 2050mhz stabile at 67 degrees, but the performance is kinda of lacking after switching from 1080p 144 hz to to 1440p 165 hz.

I have looked at the 1080ti as a solution to my problems, but don´t know if that would be smart.
Or if a 1070 SLI would have its place in any of this?

Thank you for helping!

SLI is never the right choice.

I'd say grab a used EVGA 1080Ti. Should be cheap. I wouldn't buy one new, as the value isn't quite there.

If you're not constrained budget wise (you didn't give one) I'd go full 2080Ti to get the most of the monitor, though reviews might show the 2080 as a good choice as well. Have to wait and see, really.

Do not SLI , SLI now is not great at it used to Be and most games today do not use it (or use it properly)

A 1080ti is a good deal I believe

but I suggest that you wait for the 20 series to get released .

then their will be a price drop on 10 series cards and you save yourself some cash !

Welcome to the forum!

The 2080Ti is a bit more than I can afford at the moment, so I´m afraid it cant be considered.

Is there a special EVGA card, FW3 or some, there a better than others with cooling and general OC, and also... Is there something to keep in mind, when buying a used card?

Sorry for the noob question :)

And thank you! The forum seems very friendly !

I think the FW3 is a better cooler than their other stuff, without going too expensive. EVGA is a good brand to get used as they will offer warranty coverage based on ship date, not proof of purchase, so you'd still be covered in that regard. The Reddit HardwareSwap is a great place to grab amazing deals if you're able to check it frequently.

It can be a mixed bag depending on the topic ;)

They're supposed to be considerably faster than the 10 series, and they have RTX. While that might not be enough of a value for some, it certainly is for others.

Sales will show which way it goes. Considering they sold out almost instantly, I'd say the value to enough people is there to warrant the price.

Well I wish that they will be worth it

However , I am hoping for the rx 680 8gb!

As things currently stand, the 2080 non ti looks to be more or less a 1080ti. So ether or.

However, there are no offical reviews or benchmarks yet, all we have is Nvidia's word and leaks so imo i would wait till the reviews come out, we might be pleasently surprised and the 2080 non ti will be a good chunk faster than expected, wouldnt hold me breath though.

The 2080ti is a non starter tbh, its effctivly a Titan, so unless your the kind of person who had no issue buyign a Titan in the past, the 2080ti is irrelivant.

I would sell the 1070 (ebay, craigslist etc.) and maybe save a bit longer to make up the price difference. If the 1070 is not suiting your needs it would be best to get as powerful a card as possible to replace it.
