Multiplayer Games

Crunchy Dragon

Hello all,

A friend and I are looking around for multiplayer games we could play together.

We live a fair ways apart, so some Wii games for example would not work very well.

Criteria are as follows:

  • Must be somewhat cheap(if it's on sale, even better). Not looking to spend over $15-20 on one game.
  • Co-op is a plus, not required.
  • Must be good for casual play. CS:GO is excluded.

Basically it, our list is pretty small.

We've got Rocket League on it(since it's 40% off and everyone I asked says it's worth it for that price), and are considering Team Fortress 2.

Thanks in advance,

~Crunchy

Have you tried PlanetSide 2?

Heard of it, never tried it yet.

Slipped my mind while I was brainstorming even though I scrolled right past it haha

Overwatch is pretty fun. if it's on sale it's quite cheap. otherwise it's out of your budget i believe.

We live a fair ways apart from each other, so meeting up to play games would be a bit of a challenge.

Halo 1 may be a struggle as well, but I'll look into it.

Yeah, I hear it's pretty good.

I also hear the characters are over sexualized

LEGO!

LEGO and more LEGO!

Depending on your taste, something like Indiana Jones, Avengers, Batman, Harry Potter, Star Wars or whatever you feel like it.

Though I'd recommend the newer ones over the older ones.

They are non violent and offer Single system multiplayer, though you need two controllers. And that is a mus for it.

Fair point. We'd like to avoid it as much as possible though.

Overwatch isn't completely ruled out, though.

I love the Lego games so much. Definitely gonna be considering some of those.

I believe they also offer online Multiplayer. At least the newer ones should.

Other things to consider are MMORPGs like SWTOR, Guild Wars 2 and some others like Blade and Soul and so on.

Though they incentivize you to buy stuff in their Online Store (less so on GW2), that is also something to keep in mind with many online games.

Okay here is a list of games worth considering that are Free to Play, they can be considered casual, but each has their own esports community. (except TERA)

-Warthunder

-World of Tanks (WOT)

-World of Warships (WOWS)

-World of Warplanes (WOWP)

-Tera

Now onto the some cheap paid games.

-Guns of Icarus online $5 per account

-Guns of Icarus Alliance $15 per account

All of these games are MMOs and have systems that allow you to team up with other people in a platoon, squad, and etc.

In search of the future, new tech, and exploring the universe! All under the cover of anonymity!

No particular reason, just something we'd both rather avoid.

Counter Strike Source :P

Killing floor and other Tripwire games like Rising Storm are on sale right now on steam.
Swat 4 is fun on GOG. Titanfall 2 is pretty fun but can have some tough opponents.

Minecraft

Day of Defeat Source

Blood Bowl 2

Borderlands

Call of Duty. I loved playing the Special Ops missions in the Modern Warfare games with my friends. Zombies is also good. Black ops 2, black ops 1, the mods for world at war. So fourth.

Cortex Command is a hit or miss I think.

DARK SOULS :P

Dead Rising 2 has Co-Op *Insert Criken2 video here with the main character dressed as a unicorn in the cutscene*

Dying Light - Parkour & zambiez

EYE Divine Cybermancy - French interpretation of America with Warhammer 40K influence.

Fallout New Vegas with the multiplayer mod

For Honor (Was free)

Garry's mod

GTA V

How to Survive 2 seemed pretty boring to me but might be fun with friends.
Earth Defense force looked fun with friends when watching "2 best friends play" on youtube

Insurgency & Day of Infamy may be a bit hardcore but they have co-op VS Bots

Left 4 Dead 1 & 2

No More Room in Hell now has steam workshop. It's like a realistic Left 4 Dead IMO.

Natural Selection 2

Offworld Trading company

Portal 2

Quake Champions should be free now.

Resident Evil 5, 6 & the raccoon city game.
Rust :P

Savage lands :P

Civilization

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga is an RTS

Star Wars Battlefront 2 (The only one that exists & was made in 2005) is fun. There are mods to make it like the cancelled Battlefront 3 & more. The official development tools were given out years ago so people could make mods.

State of Decay is pretty fun unless you use one character & he dies and you rage quit for the first time. Hypothetically...

Splinter Cell Blacklist has co-op

Total War Attila has versus

Unreal Tornament (Gold, 2004, the modern free one that ... exists and that's it.)

World of tanks

world of warships

Fortnut

Conquerors Blade is a free to play game like for honor

Verdun

Dawn of War, Dawn of War Winter Assault, Dawn of War Dark Crusade, Dawn of War Soulstorm with the Apocalypse mod are all good choices.

Space Marine has a co-op survival mode but it's only good for the campaign I think

Gears of War trilogy is on Windows Store. 2nd and third have good hoard (survival) modes.

Halo 5 forge is free on windows store.

Rainbow Six Siege is fun too. You can play casual and get wrecked, you can play ranked and get matched with equally skilled people or get murked by smurfs every 5~12 games. Or you can play the bad terrorist hunt

Overwatch might still be on sale. They had a free weekend last weekend. It was more fun than I thought.

World of warcraft. Free to level 20 but you can't party up so if you like it, you can pay. I think you can ask for some free game time and Game Managers might give you a little time.

EDIT:
World of warcraft private servers are free.
