How do I re-install windows 10 on a ssd when received from 8.1 upgrade?

Go to solution Solved by Thias.TG,

I did the same, there should be no problem.
I downloaded my windows 10 from here into an ISO and then onto a USB via Rufus.

I recently bought a ssd and wanted to make it my primary drive. As this is the first time that i'm attempting to do this I wanted to do some research. However, when I was looking up how do this I thought i might have a problem as my copy of windows 10 was obtained from upgrading from 8.1. So are my fears unwarranted or have there been any known problems with this?

there are no problems with this, as long you have been logged into microsoft on win10.

the liscense is then stuck to your laptop and you are good to go.

insert the SSD and use a bootmedia to install win10.

i did this with a laptop from 2012/13 which originally had win 7.

remember to check which version of win 10 you are running

As has been said; the Windows 10 license is bound to your device, so you can always just re-install Windows if you need to.

The easiest way to get a genuine copy of Windows for re-installing is probably to just use the Media Creation Tool from Microsofts own website:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

It'll let you create a Windows 10 boot device, such as a USB drive, to use for re-installing.

Go directly to 10. If you have laptop or OEM system, it will be activated once you get to desktop. If its retail license, or otherwise registered to be Win10, you get it activated by using original key, or by logging to your Microsoft account.
