Ability to prevent automatic resolving of character codes to emojis

As a somewhat frequent user of the linux sub-forum, I would like to suggest the addition of a "do not resolve emojis for this post" button or checkbox, or an in-line code format to prevent the automatic resolving of character sequences such as the vi command " : x " which turns into if you leave out the space between the colon and the x.

What about just in general. Might want to have it in user settings.

That would make sense, or at least some way to revert the conversion. I'll pass it on to the forum software devs (as it's not something that I can control), but the chances of them actually following up on it are unfortunately slim.

It's totally possible to do, although it's not anywhere near ideal.

You can just put a bracket at the end of the "non-emoticon" and remove it; just make sure not to press "space" right afterwards.

From my experience, it works:

 

EDIT: Wow, I'm an idiot. I never thought about it being "processed" again, as soon as it's posted. Sorry for wasting your time, I did actually think this worked(as stupid as this sounds), as I never intentionally sent a "non-emoticon"...

 

EDIT II: Hold on a second; it seems to work if you just put an underscore where the "blank spot" would otherwise be and just delete that after putting in the letter, number, et cetera...

I assume this version is already implemented if not already replaced by an even newer version but I can't seem to find a way to be old skool about my emoticons and type ':)' without getting  all the time. Am I just ignorant to the button that turns this off or isn't there any? In case there is none, can this be implemented in some way shape or form so that it doesn't take weird tricks to get text instead of pictures?

The Beta is down as of 1125 EST. I do hope the emoji thing is solved, though. I hate the LTT emoji set, personally.

Well, all I can say is that I like playing around a bit with javascript as well as solving my own problems, feel free to use the script via tampermonkey or any such add-on to use userscripts  Only verified it working via chrome and tampermonkey so no guarantees on other browsers/extensions. BTW what the script does is it replaces all pictures that create the emoticons with the literal text they initially replaced...

 

edit: interestingly enough some of the emoji's are images with the "alt" set to the text form and some are with the emoji keyboard equivalent in the "alt" this makes the script not work sometimes
