Selling mobo + cpu. Windows key help.

mikedrewsmy

I am planning to sell my Asus ROG Strix Z370-F Gaming + i7 8700k tomorrow.

If i sell this combo, during Windows 10 installation does the new owner need to key in the Activation Key?
And if he doesn't need to do it, is he going to be able to see my details when he boots his Windows (since the Windows 10 key is registered under my name).

You Gotta Hit Us Up, To Get A Pimped Out Rig,

You've Got To Pimp My Riggggggg...  (DAMN RIGHT)

They'll need their own key but even if they don't they would have to sign in with your Microsoft account details since nothing but maybe the key is going to be stored on anything you're selling.

Thanks guys. Reason why i asked is because :

1. I'm a noob pc user

2. Security is my utmost priority

3. I read somewhere the keys will be stored in UEFI

The only time they are stored, that I know of at least, is in pre-builts where they burn the key into the BIOS/UEFI

Even if the key was stored there, no personal details are going to be accessible to them, they would just have a free key is all.

As long as the Windows license you bought is not OEM there is nothing to worry about.

If it's OEM, it means it's tied to the motherboard and you can't really move it, but I called windows support once and managed to move a license after telling them that my old laptop died.

I don't really care about the Windows key, I just do not want my data privacy such as name, email address or profile photo being there when the other party installs windows on the mobo + cpu.

You can remove linking with key and your MS account. After that it doesn't matter. They would need to log in to your accound to access any such details anyway. If you sell it without Windows, its their responsibility to get new key if needed.

Having key doesn't give any access to any account details. It only activates Windows. Mobo doesn't store any account info.
