But why? Buying new stuff because it's newer makes no sense.

Besides, that PSU should be the first one to go, not the CPU. Arguably, even the graphics card should go before the CPU, when gaming is considered anyway

then buy new CPU and mobo when that future comes and the 6700k isn't enough. An 8700k today could be outdated a few months later, and the pursue of more advanced stuff just goes on forever.

The 6700K and Z170 along with the ram you have is still relative in todays age for gaming. Best bet is before the new 7nm Ryzen chips come out, sell the current setup you have and combine that with your savings and you can get something like a Ryzen 3700 (8 cores). I wouldn't really purchase anything now knowing that the next line of AMD and Intel cpus will be 7nm and 10nm.

thing is, i would barely get anything for this setup, i would get a max of 200 nzd (on average ~130 usd) for board and cpuand right now the cheapest new 2700 comes in at about 550 and the 4XX boards are on average 220 for a decent 1 so if the prices are about the same im still going to be pretty short, but what i was looking at is the 2700 and the gigabyte ax370 k3 and that brings me up to about 620
