Laptop Suggestions

Hello, all.
I'm new in this forum and in need of suggestions in buying a laptop.
I'm Indonesian that lives in Jakarta and currently looking for a laptop for work.
My budget is 1000 USD (max), and here are my laptop criteria:
1. Can run SDL Trados Studio 2011/2014/2017

Quote

System Requirements

SDL Trados Studio 2019 supports Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

As a minimum requirement, we recommend an Intel or compatible CPU-based computer with 4 GB RAM and a screen resolution of 1024x768.

For optimum performance, we recommend a 64-bit operating system, 16 GB RAM, an SSD drive and a recent Intel or compatible CPU.

It's a bit vague, but I guess this software run on Lenovo Ideapad 120S with Intel N3350, 4GB, and 128 GB SSD?

2. Weight less than 2.2 kg (~4.8lbs)

3. 1366x768 or 1920x1080 display resolution (preferablly the latter)

4. ASUS, HP, Dell, Acer brand

Other option is to buy a refurbished Thinkpad X series?

Thank you.

What is your price range?

Where are you from?

If i may ask, Why only Asus, HP, Dell or Acer?

Used is also an option, But if you have a decent budget no point to go used.

LOL. I'm from Jakarta, Indonesia.
My price range is around 350 to 1200 CAD.
Those 4 brand have the most product available in the Indonesia market.
Getting used product to save money, and invest more in PC?

You have a budget of $1000 USD and you want to go for something with "1024x768" resolution, are you sure mate?

Look for something that's 1080p minimum as that's the standard and you aren;t really going anywhere with anything below that. Not to forget you can get some decent 4k laptops in that price range these days...

Trust me it is very tough to find anything 4K cheap in India and similarly in Indonesia I guess. Import taxes and price hikes over US prices are crazy. he is better off finding a used laptop with decent specs. 1080p will be easy to get.

LOL. I just want to get the experience when using a 350 CAD laptop or how long the used laptop will hold out.\

Finding a used laptop is also kind of hard in Indonesia. Second and third gen Intel mobile processors can be sell around 150-250 USD.

Small form PC, Dell Optiplex (PC only) with i5-3470 and 4 GB DDR3 RAM (sorry if there's mistakes) is being sold near 200 USD. Dunno if it's expensive or not.

Ah, about Dell 7472. The config in Indonesia is a bit different.
Here's the spec that I know of in Indonesia:
Intel Core i5 8250U, RAM 8GB, SSD 256GB, 14" FHD IPS, nVidia GeForce MX150 2GB, DVDRW, Win 10 Home
(cost around 828 USD, or 779 USD on Dell's website)

That looks good some basic  setting changes should improve battery life.

Probably will settle with Pavilion 14 bf193TX, I guess.
A bit curious about this model memory configuration, though. Does it have dual memory slot?
In terms of connectivity ports, this model does have a complete set of it.

Plus, I am wondering whether you can add a language in Windows 10 Single Language or not.
I want to be able to type in Japanese characters along with English (Singapore) language.
Sorry for being a bit of off topic.

Thank you so much for the input so far.

Worse from Dell 7472? xD
Have you tested it?
Because it has LAN port, i5-8250U,  weighs 1.53 kg with 128 GB SSD and 1 TB HDD, 8 GB RAM?
(Hoping that it is still in stock)

Or, should I opt for i7-8750H?

Yes worse than 7472. I never had the chance to test since I'm not a seller, these are based on my knowledge

Don't just look at specs when buying laptop

What knowledge do you have to say that HP is worse than Dell?
Is there a known defect in HP laptop cooling system design that makes it inferior to Dell laptop cooling system?

I'm not comparing brands. Compare models

Depends on model. HP has good cooling laptops, Dell has mediocre cooling laptops. And vice versa
