Is Huawei Ahead of the Game When it Comes to Foldable Phones?

BOE’s next foray is to push further into OLED production and innovation, which is where the flexible OLED panels that Huawei is mooted to be using come in

Usually it's Samsung who is the leader in screen technologies, or at least standardizing it. For example OLED display started showing showing up on Samsung devices and set the standard. However even though we have seen Samsung teasing their flexible screens for a little bit now Huawei may be the first to have an actual product with a flexible screen.  For me at least I would take a foldable phone over a standard phone. Not only because it folds but you will be able to get a bigger screen smaller size (when folded). I use a iPhone 8 and I hate the size because my hands are way bigger but the iphone 8 plus doesn't fit in my pocket comfortably. This would be a great solution for me, If it is sturdy. I say this because I think Huawei is going to have a harder time making the other components of the phone bend with the screen without having a lop-sided device. But I hope this is a success because maybe in the future we might get foldable laptops.

It’s difficult to imagine a first-generation foldable device being anywhere near as refined as modern smartphone flagships with conventional displays. Then there’s the massive issue of software: a foldable phone will require an adaptable user interface that responds quickly to changes in screen size and also provides some tailored experiences unavailable on other phones. Can we really trust Huawei or Samsung, whose expertise lies in hardware, to craft such sophisticated software?

That's what I was thinking, but then again, the OP does seem to want that. For me, a foldable display wouldn't do anything. I'd rather have a thicker phone with bigger battery and a physical keyboard I can pull out, à la Nokia N900 or such.

That is so funny maybe it's just a generation gap but to be honest I've never used a physical keyboard on a phone other than my moms blackberry from 9 years ago. xD

Could be, I don't know. I mean, when I was younger, there weren't touchscreen-phones at all and my first phone was literally the size of a brick. O.o That said, a keyboard you can slide in/out, like on the N900, can be quite useful, depending on what one uses the phone for, and I totally, absolutely hate typing anything on a touchscreen, so there's that, too.

Huawei releases phones based on competitors rumors, they'll half ass a product and just release it just to be first.

The more I think about flexible displays, the less I want them...

I dobt want some floppy thing that snaps in two because it got folded to tight in my pocket

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

Would be nice to have like a screen "mat" that you could roll out and use on a wall.
