Trying to restore an old pc

lior1111

So its an old pc that used to run just fine , got a new one and never touched this one that im talking about , the old pc ever since.
was trying to get it up and running again today with no success.

all that is happening is pc turning on , showing signs of life -
- fans are turning everywhere

- the power button lights up so im pretty sure the wiring is ok.

- the pc stays on

the problem is - there is no display signal.

what i tried -

- unplugging the gpu and connecting the hdmi cable into the mobo.

- switching ram spots

- trying other monitors

another thing that might be useful to add is that the pc is turning off by just a short small instant click on the power button instead of as all computers - after a 5 second press on the power button.

would really appreciate any sort of help.

It's motherboard failure. In 99 of 100 cases.

But just try to remove cooler and put it on processor without mounting for few seconds. I have that problem few times with cooler tha was mounted too hard (probably pins fault).

That 5 seconds power off is only when system is loaded. When BIOS controlls computer, short press is default for power off (you can change it in BIOS).

Thank you, ill try. Makes sense considering this pc was being transferred alot ans not being handled very lightly, while knowing motherboards are really sensitive..

Try powering it up without the hard drive connected and see if you get anything on screen. If RAM is at fault it'll generally beep at you.

Probably gaming or helping technophobes with tech...

Depending on what "old" means here, have a closer look at your mainboard and see, if any capacitor is visibly damaged or bulging. That can happen just by aging and  would be the end for the mobo.
