What are the WORST VALUE pre-builts you've seen?

Ok guys, so I've been searching around my local area for places that sell computer parts, not coming up with much other than computer repair shops that sell prebuilt crap.

And...it got me wondering, what are some of the worst prebuilt pieces of gosa have you seen available?

Post your pics of adverts etc (try not to identify the shop as they're just trying to make a living so we can't be too harsh).

First up.

This is a current advert on the website of a store in my area.

It's June 2018, and they're trying to sell people an FX8250 system with a GTX970 for £1000!?!?!

A lot of the Alienware PCs I've seen.

Cyberpower is pretty good at good prices, but so many of the PCs I've seen from them have FX CPUs....and this was even back in 2017.

My old APU-based prebuilt.

Now tbh when I bought it, it wasn't too bad a deal cause I only paid £270 and this was over 2 years ago now (A8 7650K, random mobo that allowed for OC'ing, 8GB Ram, 1TB HDD, W10, Wi-Fi, decent looking case)

However for some stange reason in the 2 or so months after I'd purchased it I noticed the price kept creeping up every week, and eventually made it up to £470 :o

The biggest problem with Pre-builts from mass manufactures is that they use such crappy PSU's or Coolers.

Or both...

Thats not so bad for a machine that will just get you going. It's still overpriced but not terribly.

The one I posted is a £70 CPU and what one assumes will be the cheapest components for everything else, not to mention an outdated GPU (can you even buy 970's brand new anymore???)

One of the reasons I avoid prebuilts if at all possible.

Also, I see you've got a 780Ti there :)

Greetings, fellow Kepler user.

There are extreme cases of overpriced pc all over the place, because people like to put them out there and yes they sell.  But for the most part prebuilts are not over priced, we just think they are because when we build ourselves we don't consider overheads, profit, labor or any of the other sundries expenses that a business incurs building a product.

yeah, i bought it a few days ago. i'm SO happy with it. it's a nice upgrade over the 1050 that i had..

and SO much cheaper than 900 series. i paid about €150 for it, and 980ti's go for €400+.. now yes i did get a good deal, usually 780ti's are about €180 so.. but yeah it's an awesome card..

apple stuff is bad value even on the used market now. people here dare to ask about €450 for a 2012 13 inch macbook pro

People usually price at what they can sell at. Realistically Apple products depreciate at a much weirder rate than PCs.

He was generous, I can't really thank him enough. Especially since it was during a high point in the GPU shortage.

i can imagine..

but i thought the gpu shortage only really drove up the price of new cards. maybe it's because i'm in europe i dunno.. the used market stayed relatively fine if you weren't looking for cards people use for mining.. kepler stayed at it's usual price.. the mining stuff does explain the ridiculous prices for geforce 900 series on the used market.

Kepler is practically impossible to mine on, so the prices there can't go up much. As it was, I wouldn't have been able to afford a better GPU in terms of price/performance when he gave it to me.

A $2.5K machine with an i7 4790+GTX 650 marketed as a gaming rig. Either that or the i5 4440 "gaming" machine which was the next one down (and cost $1.2K if you told them you wanted a GTX 650ti 2GB added to it). I feel sorry for those who bought the i7 rig.
