mdadm: No arrays found in config file

I cannot boot into openmediavault with all my HDDs connected, as it gives the error "mdadm: No arrays found in config file" and keeps repeating the message until it drops to a shell. But, disconnecting all the drives except the one I installed openmediavault on allows it to load perfectly normal. What should I do?

do you have an mdadm raid, or do you use the disks individually?

If you have no raid then the message is normal.

If you want to get rid of the message then you can edit your /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf and add the line

ARRAY <ignore> devices=/dev/sda

None of the disks are set up yet, I am planning to put 3 into a RAID 5. Where can I find the conf. file?

If you're new to OMV and its a new setup, then it sounds like you just need to learn how to use it.

Dropping into the shell is normal, because like any other NAS OS it's designed to be managed remotely.

On the NAS you can type 'ifconfig' to see what the IP address is, and then browse to that from another computer and login.

Then just use the OMV web interface to configure your raid.

RESOLVED (after many edits!). Strangely, when only one disk was attached it would boot regardless which physical SATA port on the motherboard it was plugged in to. If there is more than one disk attached, to be sda1 it needs to physically be connected to the first SATA port in order to be labeled sda1. I found this out by going to Gparted and seeing the openmediavault drive labeled as sda2. I checked the physical port on the motherboard, and sure enough, it was in the second port.

  • 1 year later...

It might sound crazy but i did something and it worked for me.

Problem is caused by drives that changes paths after installation.

Using the CD drive as installation medium seems to work for few people.

What I did is, In Bios of my CPU, I have put the Sata Mode into IDE Mode instead of AHCI.

Then the problem disappeared and everything worked just fine. :)

Hope this helps.
