What do pay for your internet?

MikkoP

I have heard a lot of people complaining about their internet connection, how they pay a fortune for slow speeds and don't even get the promised speeds. I thought that posting a poll here would give some idea on this subject. Is it really so bad?

I personally pay 35 € for my 100 Mb/s down and 10 Mb/s up connection without TV or phone abilities. That's roughly 50 $. When it comes to real speeds I get 95 down (85 at the moment, my 24 port 100 Mb/s switch from the 90s is holding it back) and 9,5 up. I'm pretty happy.

Edit. Wow, that poll looks huge!

We have BT Infinity 2 (UK) we pay about £42 (Aprox. $68) and we get 70+ Down and 15+ Up pretty much all the time. Also there is absolutely no caps so I can download to my hearts content and no throttling either. We have the phone in the contract but since we don't use it we have nothing special for it. Really satisfied with it!

For 20d/2up, phone, and tv it's about $120 a month from twc, but that is the best I can get here. I also get throttled at around 2am and we don't have a cap from them.

This is why I love LTT. The mods at Spiceworks would have brought this thread down.

Well the first option on download and upload speed(0-10Mbps) is very wrong,in my opinion, because 2Mbp/s is veeeery slow but 9 Mbp/s is kinda ok. So it is not clear how bad the internet connection. Make more specific options on lower speeds and more general on higher speeds. Otherwise, great idea. Good job!

There's already a lot of entries... if I move the choices, will the votes be deleted or will they be there with the wrong choices?

Yea, didn't know people have this bad connection speeds, 0-10 Mb/s is the most voted option...

This is great! Good work thinking out of the box!

I pay £20 a month for 60 mbps down and 3mbps upload from Virgin Media. I usually get around 65mbps download.

Very well done survey. +1 for you

No it isnt.

It would be good if you could group peoples answers. For example, to compare peoples answers who selected that they are in North America, and to see what their prices are compared to people who selected Europe.

something like Google Forms can do this, and OP could display the results in the post at the top.

Similar information is also availible on Speedtest.net, and that has the advantage of having a much, much higher sample size.

Well, this is for the forum members. I think these tech enthuasists have better connection than the average guy that just browsers for weather.

There you are right that grouping isn't possible with this. I didn't know it when I made the poll.

Haha nah, had to pay for that. I work for a small ISP, specialising in wireless and custom, business grade services and do residential on the side. There are some perks working for them that's for sure :)

Most of the people here are aged 13 - 16. Their parents most likely dictate what broadband package they have.

Maybe it would be possible for @LinusTech to pull some statistics out of the database? I personally settle in that range by the way but I'm still in charge when it comes to these things lol.
