Is there a big difference between GTX 1060 6gb and GTX 1070 Ti?

Kingslasher3000
Go to solution Solved by Jurrunio,

1070ti has twice the performance of a 1060 6gb. No reason to consider the 1060 6gb when you can afford the 1070ti.

So I was building a pc,and Im quite confused on which gpu I should get.

Both are in my budget but I wanted to have some leftover bucks for games, controller etc.

However,That doesnt seem possible with the 1070.

So I thought about the 1060 6gb,But I keep thinking about performance and how big of a difference it would make.

So I came to ask, Is is that big of difference between the GTX 1060 6GB and GTX 1070 Ti ?

Any suggestion/Recommendation is welcome.

Get the 1070Ti. Unless you find a cheap 1080. I have a 1060 6GB although I'm very impressed what I got of it. I wish I went higher. But a G4600 wouldn't make sense back then, I shouldn't have listened to them.

I have some 1060 a 1070ti and 1080.

The 1070ti is the way to go right now. Its basically a 1080 but much cheaper. And the 1070ti is only slightly more expensive than a 1060.

Dont pay more than $470 for a 1070ti. Nvidia website is selling them for $450

My 1060 6GB is good enough for gaming on around med-high settings 1080p with an 144Hz monitor in most games, but If I had the time back I would have gotten a 1070 or a 1070Ti. Might end up upgrading yet, not sure yet. It does have some issues running brand new games on those specs (ex. The Crew 2 Beta).

The gaming potential of a 1070 Ti is completely on pair with the GTX 1080 which is 2 steps up... frankly speaking this is the best value for money card for a gamer right now.

What's your budget/country and what games are you playing?

Could always save a fair amount with a Ryzen APU for now and wait until better GPU prices or newer GPUs come out .

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

For its price (depending on when you bought it ofc) the 1060 6GB is a great card for 1080p gaming. But if you can get a 1070ti at a price you're happy with...then there is no comparison. Grab that 1070ti and run! xD

Yes, there is a big difference between the GTX 1060 and the GTX 1070 Ti.

But it all depends on your preferences.

1080 p is indeed not extremely high.

But depending on the games that you are playing, and especially at very high settings, a GTX 1060 might have a difficult time giving you butter smooth frame rates.

So, if you would like to crank up the game settings to max, you might want to grab yourself a 1070 Ti.

More like +57%

Even the 1080 has "only" 70-75%~ more performance.

But yea, get the fastest you can afford.

1060 is fine for 1080p Gaming @ 60 fps Target, with sometimes slightly reduced settings. For anything more, you need more^^

With my 1060 I have to lower some settings on some games such as NFS: Payback I can max it out but lag in the forests at 2560x1080. If it was 1080p then I would not lag.

Yeah, I would have gotten a 1070TI at the start if it was out when I was making this PC and if the prices were not mad. At the time I only had an old HP 1080P 60Hz screen anyways so the 1060 was plentys and it still does everything I need it to do for now.

I might wait to see if this card gives out before the warranty goes on it, EVGA has just given people the equivalent of their card in the next series if they do not have any of the older ones left.

And what if something unfortunate might happen to your 1060 6 GB card that requires it to be RMAed to EVGA... Imagine such a situation though... ;-)

That would be terrible...I wonder if Gigabyte would be as accommodating should any such event befall my 1060 once their stocks are depleted and can only offer an 1160? xD
