In Linus' "6M SUBS - and none of them matter..." video he talks about it not making it to the sub feed yet performing about as well as a video that did, ratio wise.

Now because subs watch his recent content and the algorithm uses the "new" tag on recommended videos to show that it is under a week old and the video had a eye catching and unique thumbnail and title it's very easy to notice. You might even think that it's just been uploaded since as a sub, you didn't notice it before.

I don't think the algorithm would have performed as well if the video did not stand out on it's own with it's thumbnail and title, the "new" tag probably does help quite a bit it still needs to be noticed.

LTT isn't really a good example of testing waters because they release at least one video/day and many people just go to the channel's site to see what's going on.

But do that in channel with irregular releases and you basically sentencing that video to oblivion.

It wasn't a particularly responsible video, his channel is safe because of his main stream innocuous appeal.

Now imagine what google can do to hide channels it doesn't like politically behind such an opaque system.

They haven't earned that trust, in fact they have proven they are not to be trusted.

there's an argument/theory from the viewer's perspective on another bent:

basically subbers might be flooding themselves from old channels they practically don't follow anymore

(I don't have a youtube viewing account firsthand, so I'm not sure what key point to highlight or add to ._.)

this is a very valid point, im sure many people have over 100 channels they are subscribed to and only watch a fraction of them regularly.

Can't believe some took that video title seriously. 9_9xD

I was actually discussing the points Linus made in the video, the title was just for making it clear what I'm referring to.
