Is There Such A Thing?

Mind_001

Does this exist? A laptop without a screen? Without a keyboard/trackpad?

So technically just the motherboard, CPU, RAM, HDD, external PSU and laptop casing?

I know you can buy one that has a bad screen, and just take the monitor off, and use the VGA/HDMI/DP/Thunderbolt ports. Can even take the keyboard off and use external one.

But do they MAKE these? Or will I need to make one myself? Mod it?

It's called a small form factor pc :P

But seriously, you'll have to mod that from an existing laptop AFAIK.

I want a laptop, but they are so hugely priced anyway. The NUCs as well.. I have spare monitors, mice, keyboards. I don't need it to be "portable"

I just wondered if it was possible to attach everything to the NUC/laptop and run to its potential, but save 100s of dollars.

If it can have discreet video, and a good CPU, I shouldn't have to pay $2000 for it...

Edit: That actually gave me an idea... Do the latest NUCs have thunderbolt? If so, I can use an e-GFX dongle.

If I can get a sweet deal somehow....

Actually, roms really aren't illegal, but let the FBI figure that out...

They're illegal if you don't own the original games, and if you do have the game but download the ROM for it then it's sort of a grey area. Making the ROM yourself in most places is perfectly fine.

My friend used a lot of high-end HP products, says it's rather good.

That Quadro isn't amazing for gaming if you're looking to play demanding modern games at high settings https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-Quadro-M620-GPU-Benchmarks-and-Specs.213796.0.html

The Quadro is made for AutoCAD, not gaming. I'm not looking at playing the latest of games.

ROFL... I do have some of them, but a friend modded my PSP to accept roms, that are loaded on a SD card. I have some 100 games on there. But "I" didn't do it. :)

Wondering, do they ever sell laptops that have bad screens (see on eBay, but..), or where the motherboard is still intact? (with heat pipe and stuff) I saw several "only motherboard" on eBay, but all of those don't come with a heatsink, or anything.

Actually, I took a look at this. If I can get a refurbished laptop, one I know works well. Not just as-is. So then I can take off that screen, keyboard/trackpad. (maybe just resell them :)) So use external lcd, HDMI/DP, whatever the laptop has.

Any hints on good prices/performance? Was thinking on a TouchPad X1 Carbon, but if any of you know sweeter deals.
