There are USB based attacks that anti-virus can't catch. For example with some that work on a USB controller level, your computer won't know the difference between an attack and an actual keyboard that you are typing on. A much better approach to security is to never plug anything into a usb port if you don't know where it came from. 
 

Attacks can come from the other direction too, which is why you should never plug into USB ports at airports (or any public USB port) to charge your phone, and should instead bring your own adapter and plug into a normal power outlet.

Cooler: Cooler master hyper 212 evo

Storage: 2TB WD Red x1, 128gb OCZ SSD for OS

Case: HAF 932 adv

id guess its a wireless adapter of some sort, maybe bluetooth seeing as they can be made extremely small, and that its broken. the plastic is all there just to make it a bit larger so its harder to loose

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Just cut it in half or bend the metal tab off to see if there is anything actually there. If not it could have been used as a prop or show piece

On the fourth photograph though... once you’ve peeled away the black plastic... does that black rectangular thingy looks like a capacitor? I cannot make it out on the pictures that you’ve included.

To be honest, that does not really look like a NAND flash chip to me. However, I'm no microelectronics expert so I might as well be wrong.

I don't really know, but it has this matte, rough surface, reminds me of NAND Flash or DRAM or something in those lines.

It also doesn't look like the rest of the casing.

Maybe it's just rubber :D

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Remains a mystery to me too.

I get the loveless sometimes down range or State side when we get the lovely notice that some dumb butt plugged an USB device into the system.  Said user gets in sever trouble that is for sure.  Heck, my shop, even if they come across unmarked CDs, will destroy such devices and discs when found.
